A Research Technician position is available in the Centre for Cancer Immunology at Southampton General Hospital. This newly constructed research building represents the first dedicated cancer immunology centre in the UK, building on a 40-year history of pioneering immunology and cancer research at Southampton. The centre houses world-class research facilities, including state-of-the-art scientific laboratories and a clinical trials unit.
The position is associated with the laboratory of Professors Ward and Ober. Their interdisciplinary research program focuses on developing novel antibody-based therapeutics for cancer and autoimmunity, leading to several therapeutics currently in advanced clinical trials or approved for clinical use. The group also develops advanced microscopy techniques for evaluating novel therapeutics in cellular environments, supported by major grants from the Welcome Trust and Cancer Research UK.
The appointee will be highly motivated and excited about supporting a dynamic, interdisciplinary group of researchers. Responsibilities include providing technical support for the experimental work of post-doctoral fellows, research scientists, and graduate students, as well as ordering and maintaining laboratory instrumentation and supplies. Familiarity with biosafety and regulatory processes is essential.
Minimum qualifications include a skill level equivalent to HNC, A-Level, or NVQ3, with proven work experience in relevant technical support roles. The role requires the ability to plan and organize workloads, work well under pressure, and communicate effectively with laboratory members. A scientific knowledge in a biological field equivalent to B.Sc. level is extremely desirable.
The post-holder will possess relevant academic qualifications and work experience, as well as good IT skills. The position is for two years until 28/06/2026, with anticipated availability of funds for a period beyond this timeframe.
Informal enquiries should be directed to Professor E. Sally Ward (e.s.ward@soton.ac.uk) or Professor Raimund J. Ober (r.ober@soton.ac.uk).
