Position: Head of Housing Disrepair (HDR) Location: Manchester or London A disruptive new law firm committed to streamlining the legal dispute resolution process is seeking to engage an HDR to join the senior team at the law practice. The practice is currently focused on the consumer and small business legal claims sector and growing into SME claims (Home - Heirloom Fair Legal) The law firm utilises technology, artificial intelligence, automation and standardisation to make the smaller dispute resolution processes simpler and more efficient. The candidate should feel at ease using technology and be both curious and eager to find ways to incorporate its use into the legal process. Streamlining the legal claims process, the firm will also originate, oversee, finance and insure claims in-house, reducing the number of parties involved in an individual claim file.. Role Summary: We are seeking an experienced and motivated Head of Housing Disrepair (HDR) to lead and manage our Housing Disrepair team. This role requires a high level of expertise in housing disrepair claims, including both pre-litigated and litigated matters, and a strong capability in managing a team, overseeing processes, and driving the strategic growth of the department. Key Responsibilities: Team Leadership & Supervision: Oversee the practice, ensuring high-quality service delivery Manage an initial caseload while guiding a team of 3-5 personnel. Build and develop the team for long-term success. Regularly review fee earners files, providing advice, support, and constructive feedback as required. Case Management & Litigation: Oversee and manage Housing Disrepair cases, both pre-litigated and litigated, ensuring effective case management from initial instruction to settlement. Draft and review various legal documents, standard letters, and processes to maintain consistency and efficiency within the team. Handle complex cases, including small claims, fast track, and multi-track matters Process Improvement & Quality Control: Audit Housing Disrepair files to ensure compliance with company standards, identifying areas for improvement and offering feedback to Partners and the team. Ensure all relevant legal updates and changes are communicated effectively to the team and that processes are adapted accordingly. Data & Reporting: Provide data and statistics related to case files to the Senior Management team upon request. Monitor team performance and provide detailed reports on case progress, outcomes, and team productivity. Collaboration & Client Liaison: Liaise with witnesses, surveyors, experts, and external parties to gather necessary evidence and support claims. Maintain strong client relationships, ensuring timely and effective communication regarding case progress. Strategic Growth & Department Development: Contribute to the strategic expansion and development of the Housing Disrepair department. Actively seek opportunities for process improvement and efficiency, ensuring the team operates to the highest standards. Candidate Requirements: Experience: Qualified Solicitor or FCILEX Proven experience handling Housing Disrepair claims, both pre-litigated and litigated At least 5 years of litigation experience, with the ability to manage complex cases and navigate legal procedures. Solid understanding of housing disrepair law, including the assessment of quantum and legal procedures. Proven ability to manage a team, supervise junior fee earners, and provide leadership. Skills & Expertise: Strong legal and procedural knowledge in Housing Disrepair cases, with the ability to review and update legal documents as needed. Excellent drafting and communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts in an accessible way. Ability to review case files and provide strategic advice to Partners, clients, and team members. Proactive and solution-focused approach to problem-solving and case management. Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands while meeting deadlines.
