Main duties of the job Duties: To deliver a high-quality service to general surgery and colorectal patients from the Airedale Health Economy Maintain the provision of elective and emergency surgery care as part of a general surgical team and provide comprehensive management for general and colorectal patients joining a team of 4 colorectal cancer surgeons. Possess experience and skills across a range of surgical techniques and be competent with the following procedures including, but not limited to o Open and laparoscopic and colorectal surgery (Robotics experience desirable but not essential) o Anorectal pathology o Experience of pelvic floor surgery desirable o General surgical procedures - laparoscopic cholecystectomy, hernias laparoscopic and open o JAG accredited Endoscopy skills - lower GI essential, Upper GI desirable o Outpatient clinic skills Participate regularly in clinical governance activities, teaching and in the cancer unit peer review process Participate in our objective achieving the local and national access waiting time targets including referral to treatment (RTT) Comply with the GMC requirements of Duties of a Doctor & Good Medical Practice About us Our award winning hospital is also in an award winning location providing genuine opportunities for a great work-life balance. The Department has 60 inpatient beds - female ward is shared with gynaecology, urology and gastroenterology, male ward is shared with urology and gastroenterology. Airedale has 9 theatres including a newly opened barn theatre, and a procedure suite used for ophthalmic procedures.The Department is well-equipped for all types of general surgery and urology. In addition to the usual surgical facilities, the theatre has full laparoscopic and endourological surgical facilities. The Department aspires to secure a surgical robot. The Department participates in regional and national training courses and research.
