Clinical Nurse Specialist, Band 7 (30 hours a week)
The role of the Cancer Nurse Specialist in Urology is a great opportunity to develop your clinical and professional practice along with leadership and management experiences. The post holder will be an effective core member of the Urology Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) within Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, acting as an expert practitioner within the Urology team demonstrating highly developed specialist knowledge in the management of patients with urological diseases and their physical and emotional care.

Main duties of the job
* Assesses patients, plans and implements care, provides specialist advice; maintains associated records.
* Works as a specialist for patients with suspected or diagnosed urological cancers.
* Provides specialist education and training to other staff, patients, and carers.
* Undertakes research activities and leads clinical audits in own specialist area.
* Provides psychological support to patients and their families, including breaking bad news of a cancer diagnosis or disease progression on a regular basis. This includes undertaking the Holistic Needs Assessments at appropriate stages in the patient's pathway.
* Communicates with a range of other staff of all disciplines, acting as a highly specialist resource, including liaison with healthcare providers both within and outside of the Trust regarding diagnosis and treatment advice. This includes referral to other professionals (e.g., Oncologists) for continuation of patient care, maintaining confidentiality at all times.

The Urology Team consists of 13 Consultants, 8 Clinical Nurse Specialists, and 2 Cancer Support Workers along with a specialist administrative team to support the patient journey and experience. This has been enhanced by the move to a new Urology Department on Alstone Clinic. In addition, within the urology team, we have nurse practitioners, surgical care practitioners, and our specialised ward based in Cheltenham.

Person Specification
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
* Counselling Skills module/ Psychological Support module
* Specialist clinical skills and experience within specialist area (Urology - cancer)
* Previous experience as a Band 6 CNS (Cancer/Urology Care)
* Able to promote patient safety by undertaking comprehensive risk assessments and action plans, supporting Urology Clinical Governance processes
* Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC register
* Level 7 Post Grad Diploma/Master's Degree within relevant speciality or commitment to work towards
* Recognised management/leadership course, or equivalent level of skill gained through experience or commitment to work towards
* Urology Care module
