A Specialist school for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs is looking for an experienced Class Teacher to teach a SEN KS1 class within a SEMH setting.
The Role
The school is seeking an experienced SEND Class Teacher to work with SEND students in a SEMH setting. The students primarily present SEND Autism, Global Development Delay, and the majority of students are non-verbal. Some students present SEMH needs; however, the primary need in the class is SEND. You will be supporting them in developing their day-to-day and academic skills as well as their social emotional needs, in preparation for their transition to secondary education.
Due to the nature of this role, the school is looking for highly experienced Teaching Assistants or HLTAs with previous experience supporting pupils with SEMH or complex emotional and behavioural needs. PRU or similar experience would be preferable. Restraint training such as PRICE or de-escalation training is desirable, however, not essential, as PRICE training will be provided.
The School
This small, independent school specializes in providing schooling for children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The dedicated staff team is committed to providing a nurturing and supportive learning environment that is adaptable to meet each student's needs. The school offers the stability needed to gain emotional balance and well-being support to allow students to develop their self-esteem and a positive attitude towards lifelong learning. Alongside the core teaching and support staff, there is a team of therapists and outreach workers providing the students with a rounded support program.
The school is based in Wembley and benefits from being part of a larger charity focused on improving the mental health and well-being of children.
There is established leadership in place at the school that holds consistently high standards for their staff, and there are good opportunities for professional development and career progression within the school.
If you have previous experience supporting young people with SEMH and behavioural needs and would like the opportunity to work in a supportive and progressive school, please apply immediately with an up-to-date CV outlining your experience.
