Policy Associate (Consumer Policy)
We are looking to recruit a number of experienced policy professionals to support our policy development – including Policy Project Lead, Policy Manager and Policy Associate. This advert relates to the Policy Associate role.
These policy roles, part of our new Consumer Policy and Engagement Directorate, will support work in evolving and high-profile areas, including around empowering consumers, complaints handling, and high-volume consumer claims.
The Policy Associate Role
The Policy Associate is a senior role which carries substantial responsibilities and opportunities to influence the policy direction of the SRA.
An important part of this role will be to raise the profile of consumer policy within the SRA - and the SRA’s profile within the consumer policy space. Internally, you will be working closely with colleagues to ensure that the impact on the consumer is considered in our policy development and our actions as regulator. Externally, you will be engaging and building strong relationships with stakeholders to develop a deep understanding of consumers of legal services.
You will make an informed contribution to a range of policy and research projects across consumer and regulatory policy. You will be involved in the development, delivery, and implementation, helping the SRA to deliver effective policies that protect consumers of legal services and promote the rule of law.
You will plan, organise and manage work streams within complex and high-stakes policy development projects, applying robust project management techniques.
You will be expected to become an expert on policy issues and will be responsible for carrying out rigorous analysis to create innovative policy solutions to complex problems. As part of the role, you will engage with stakeholders both internally and externally, including at executive level. You will have a clear understanding of the range of available regulatory tools, the importance of an evidence base, and the values of equality, diversity, and inclusion to deliver effective policy outcomes.
As well as delivering policy projects in a more traditional sense, we are increasingly delivering our agenda through piloting, collaborating, partnering, and influencing. You will be expected to help identify and deliver different ways of achieving our aims.
What’s in it for you
* Contribute and make an impact to the delivery of our Corporate Strategy, including on new and fast-moving policy areas like high-volume consumer claims
* Develop and build influential relationships with external stakeholders whilst representing the SRA
* Work in an environment that values equality, diversity, and inclusion
What we are looking for
* A strong influencer who communicates confidently, clearly, and concisely to all levels of stakeholders
* An ability to understand complex policy issues and apply analysis to develop practical solutions
* Excellent drafting skills producing high-quality work in a range of formats for various audiences, particularly producing well-argued and well-evidenced papers for executive and Board level stakeholders
* Experience of policy development, including in complex policy areas, and understanding the range of regulatory and research tools to achieve desired outcomes
* Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work constructively with colleagues of all levels
* Experience in consumer policy would be desirable
