About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Social Worker to join the Assessment & Child Protection Team based in Swindon. This is a vital role that involves assessing children and families at risk, conducting safeguarding investigations, and ensuring the best possible outcomes for vulnerable children.
The successful candidate will work within a fast-paced, multi-agency environment, completing statutory assessments, managing child protection cases, and making critical decisions to safeguard children.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct statutory assessments under the Children Act 1989, ensuring timely and effective intervention.
* Undertake Child & Family Assessments, evaluating risks and needs to determine the appropriate level of support.
* Manage cases involving Child in Need (CIN), Child Protection (CP), and Looked After Children (LAC), ensuring compliance with statutory guidelines.
* Develop SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-bound) plans for children and families, ensuring effective intervention and support.
* Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns, making informed decisions to protect children from harm.
* Attend and contribute to strategy meetings, Child Protection Conferences, and court proceedings where necessary.
* Work closely with families to provide early help and preventative interventions, reducing the likelihood of escalation.
* Work in partnership with police, health services, schools, and other professionals to ensure a coordinated safeguarding approach.
* Attend multi-agency meetings, sharing information and contributing to joint planning for children and families.
* Advocate for children and families, ensuring that their voices are heard in all decisions affecting them.
* Maintain accurate, up-to-date case records in line with Swindon Borough Council’s policies and procedures.
* Ensure all interventions are legally compliant, adhering to Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018 and other relevant legislation.
* Contribute to service development by participating in case audits, reflective practice, and team discussions.
Requirements of the Social Worker:
* Degree or Diploma in Social Work (or equivalent)
* Registered with Social Work England
* Proven experience in child protection, assessment teams, or safeguarding services.
* Strong knowledge of Children Act 1989, Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018, and related legislation.
* Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high professional standards.
* Excellent communication, assessment, and decision-making skills.
* Strong report-writing skills, with experience of preparing court reports and care plans.
