Our client is the leading trade association serving the commercial finance sector across the lender and broker community.
As the Head of Finance, you will lead all aspects of the finance function to achieve the goals of the association. You will also offer strategic and operational finance support across the range of activities undertaken by the association. You will have experience of running teams and working collaboratively across teams to optimise financial performance.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting:
* Production of accurate management information to track actual financial performance vs budget on a monthly basis by department and by each discrete major revenue delivery project / event.
* Production of accurate financial Board reports with appropriate risk and opportunity analysis and material variance analysis with associated management mitigations.
* Production of KPI control chart trackers for use on a monthly basis to drive exception reporting to Board.
* Delivery of timely budgets / reforecasts after consultation with each team head to confirm forecasted income and expenditure for the next period.
* Support the CEO with assessing the financial impact of key strategic projects or changes to pricing structures.
Controllership:
* Delivery of all financial statutory processes in line with Companies House requirements, including the annual audit.
* Ownership and maintenance of the association’s Risk and Control framework.
* Ownership and maintenance of the association’s Finance related policies and procedures.
Financial Operations:
* Maintain and oversee all payment / bank activity and ensure all payments are made in accordance with the delegated authority embedded within the prevailing standing orders.
* Manage the monthly payroll process and ensure accuracy and timeliness of payments.
* Manage the bank deposits to ensure an appropriate balance of diversification of risk and return.
Other:
* Provide the CEO with Ad Hoc support as necessary.
* Provide support to the CEO to discharge the duties of the company secretary.
Skills and Proficiencies:
* Qualified accountant with previous experience of running a Finance function and completing statutory audits.
* Practical knowledge of VAT accounting.
* Experience of managing staff and supporting their development.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build and maintain relationships with Team Leaders and Board Members.
* Demonstrable understanding of market dynamics, pricing strategies, and income optimisation.
* Ability to articulate ideas clearly, produce high-quality written content, and communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
* Ability to understand and embrace the cultural differences of working within a not-for-profit trade organisation, balancing commercial ambitions with the mission to deliver Member value and industry support.
* Proficiency in evaluating data and financial performance metrics to guide decision-making and inform strategic initiatives.
* Competency with Finance and CRM systems, data analytics tools, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
* Ability to navigate and thrive in a dynamic environment, embracing change and overcoming challenges.
* Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with the commercial finance sector and the challenges faced by brokers and lenders is advantageous.
