Description of the duties
CLINICAL
1. To provide a specialist psychological service within the Nexus Personality Disorder Service including assessment (risk assessment) and therapy for both individuals and groups as appropriate.
2. To communicate, for prolonged periods of time highly complex and sensitive information to distressed and/or aggressive service-users including psychological formulations and treatment options.
3. To provide a specialist consultancy service to multidisciplinary teams and other agencies providing care for the client group.
4. To participate in generic team duties as agreed by the operational manager and Psychology Lead as appropriate, to the needs of the service.
5. To participate in regular clinical and caseload supervision arrangements provided by the Psychology Service in accordance with good practice guidelines.
6. To maintain accurate records and to monitor clinical workload using agreed systems.
7. To ensure timely recording of all data required by the Trust.
8. To provide peer clinical supervision to other MDT staff where appropriate.
TRAINING AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT
1. To provide training, supervision and consultation in psychological approaches to other staff in the multidisciplinary team.
2. To provide training and supervision to more junior colleagues or trainees.
3. To collaborate with colleagues to develop and offer training courses, workshops and supervision groups to develop skills in psychological interventions.
4. To agree a plan of personal development with the Psychology Lead and the post holder’s line manager.
Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
* Registered Mental Nurse (RMN), Social Work qualification (CSS, CQSW or DipSW), Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Art Therapist, registered Psychotherapist, Dietician, Physiotherapist or Speech and Language Therapist qualification.
* Current Registration with relevant professional body (e.g. HCPC, RCN, BACP).
Experience
Essential criteria
* Specialist therapeutic interventions with Forensic clients, including adults with severe and enduring mental health problems and personality disorder.
* Specialist assessment, including relevant psychological assessment, and developing formulation skills.
* Work with other mental health or Criminal Justice (Prison/Probation) professionals.
Desirable criteria
* Experience of working with female service users in a forensic setting.
* Supervision of staff of different professions/disciplines.

* Effective team player with very good communication skills.
* Self-awareness and emotional resilience in face of highly distressing situations.
* Empathy/engagement skills with Forensic client group.
