As our new Mechanical Process Design Engineer, you will be working closely with Project Managers and other Consultants on ecology projects as well as the opportunity to be involved in a variety of environmental investigation/remediation, environmental compliance, health and safety, sustainability, and due diligence projects within our broad Environment and Health practice. * At Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and 15+ years of qualifying engineering experience in the Wastewater Treatment engineering design field developing detailed process mechanical designs; OR
An Associate’s Degree or technical school certification in civil or mechanical technology, technical drafting, or other relevant technical curriculum and 20+ years of qualifying engineering experience working in the Wastewater Treatment engineering design field developing detailed process mechanical designs.
Equivalent education and experience in allied fields will be considered.
* Currently active Professional Engineer (PE) License.
* Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.) applications.
* Ability to serve as the design discipline process mechanical lead on large Groundwater or Wastewater treatment projects.
* Proficiency in developing process mechanical designs to render functional and constructable contract documents is essential. The ability to generate three-dimensional models in AutoCAD Plant 3D and/or Revit MEP and develop plans, elevations, details, sections, etc. is a plus.
* Ability to develop Piping and Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs), Process Flow Diagrams, mass/flow/energy balances, equipment and piping layouts as required for rendering a complete design.
* Proficiency in the use and application of Intergraph Caesar II Pipe Stress analysis software is a plus.
* Ability to develop and modify technical specifications for project requirements and develop equipment data sheets.
* Experience with Hydraulic Modeling Software (PIPE-FLO, DESIGNET, or similar) is a plus.
* Experience with commissioning, and long-term operation requirements of groundwater and industrial wastewater treatment plants are a plus.
* Ability to develop piping isometrics at industrial sites, by hand.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Established technical writing skills including development of Basis of Design reports, process control narratives, technical specifications and other technical documents.
* Willingness to continue to improve and learn.
* Ability to function as a mechanical process lead, or technical lead on large, multi-discipline projects.
* Ability to resolve or escalate (generally to the Discipline Design Lead or Project Manager) technical issues in a timely manner.
• Plans and designs process mechanical portions of projects of greater complexity, following appropriate design, engineering and building codes, and government and third party standards using engineering principles in conjunction and in concert with design staff.
• Analyzes, develops and interprets reports, drawings, analytical data, and other data required for planning and designing projects related to Wastewater Treatment. Wastewater includes sanitary, industrial and environmental (i.e. groundwater) as examples.
• Development of project documents and coordination with technical vendors to select, specify and procure equipment, valves, devices and instruments required within the project. Ability to carry out project procurement tasks from specifying to installing, including development of equipment/valve/instrument lists, technical specifications, procurement process documents & purchase orders, procurement tracking, shop drawing review, and overseeing engineering during construction questions or requests for information.
• Prepares (and at times presents) reports or analyses such as design and hydraulic calculations, and/or cost estimates. Presentation audiences may include other design team members, the project manager and occasionally external stakeholders.
• Communicates directly with clients, other discipline leads, vendors, subcontractors, contractors and regulatory agencies during the design and construction processes.
• Communicates directly with other team members to progress work products. Coordinates scale-up from treatability testing to full-scale design.
• Supports preparation of proposals, fee estimates, purchase orders and subcontract agreements.
• Delegates basic tasks to other team members.
• Participates in the quality review process of work products developed by others and takes ownership of providing quality work to the lead engineer or project manager. Participates in design safety review and follows through on resulting recommendations and action items.
• Trains and mentors early career employees.
• Is available as a go-to reference or subject matter expert to other engineers on areas of expertise.
• Coordinates work on multiple projects to maintain project objectives.
• Possesses advanced understanding of engineering fundamentals and is proficient at utilizing relevant computer software packages and engineering and design techniques specific to Wastewater Treatment.
• Maintains excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Works effectively in teams comprised of professionals with diverse skill sets, including engineers from other disciplines, scientists and subcontracted professionals.
