One Company, Limitless Opportunities
Caterpillar is the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, off-highway diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives. We do business on every continent, principally operating through three primary segments – Construction Industries, Resource Industries, and Energy & Transportation – and providing financing and related services through our Financial Products segment.
Careers at Caterpillar are limitless, we have opportunities in Engineering, Human Resources, Manufacturing, Marketing, Sales, Supply Chain and so much more. You can create the career you want. It’s your time and talent, make it count.
The Apprenticeship
An apprenticeship is a paid job where the employee learns and gains valuable, real-life experiences.
We are looking for 15 apprentices to join our team located at our Peterborough facility (PE1 5FQ); 6 apprentices to join our Maintenance team and 9 apprentices to join our Research and Development team.
Maintenance: Our maintenance team members are critical to our business’ success as they possess the technical skills and know-how to maintain our production equipment and facilities. Maintenance apprentices will use computerized systems to aid the completion of routine maintenance, diagnose equipment faults and carry out repairs in a timely manner.
Research & Development: Our Peterborough facility is home to the Caterpillar Europe Research & Development Centre, a state-of-the-art facility that positions technical specialists where they are needed most to identify, build and perfect the technologies and solutions to help our customers be successful. Apprentices will build, rig, and test new technologies that have yet to be mass-produced.
Our apprentices will:
* earn a competitive salary package, starting at c. £13,576 per year,
* receive 25 days annual leave, plus bank holidays,
* have access to a 5% annual bonus, a share scheme, a pension scheme, flexible benefits, flexible working opportunities and family-friendly policies.
In collaboration with our partnered training provider, College of West Anglia (Wisbech Campus), our 4-year advanced apprenticeship scheme will enable you to grow and develop your capabilities alongside on-the-job training supported by relatable mentors. Apprentices will spend at least 20% of their working hours completing college-based learning leading to nationally recognised qualifications through the Level 3 Engineering Technician apprenticeship standard, Mechatronics pathway. These qualifications are:
* Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence),
* Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) Mechatronics Maintenance Technician, and

As part of this apprenticeship, apprentices are required to attend college on a day release basis and therefore will be required to travel. Upon completion of the apprenticeship, apprentices can apply for the appropriate level of EngTech (Engineering Technician) professional registration status.
The Experience
All apprentices will take part in a rotational training programme in the first year of the apprenticeship. This structure is designed to allow apprentices to experience different functions within Maintenance and Research & Development. Apprentices will then be given the choice to express interest in the function they wish to specialise in. Once the apprentice specialises, they will be embedded into the relevant team solving real world problems. Work may include but not be limited to:
* Mechanical & electrical maintenance of plant machinery.
* Robotic & automation understanding.
* Exposure to CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines.
* Exposure to the assembly, test, and finish of our engines.
