Senior Electrical Design Manager
ESP is seeking an ambitious, forward-thinking, and innovative individual with strong electrical engineering design knowledge who can bring solutions to the needs of our customers and developers. Working for the Head of Network Design, with the ability to lead team members and take the lead on strategic projects, the individual will have strong knowledge of HV and EHV networks.
The role involves leading customer connection discussions both on and off site with major customers and UK developers.
Role Purpose
Our Design Team enables the safe adoption of distribution networks by ensuring that ESP specifications are met. This team of Design Engineers reviews expanding network demand and maintains a high standard of our asset register, which is vital for ESP’s growth. The role requires collaboration within the team and with other departments, as well as external stakeholders.
You will lead, mentor, and manage a team of electrical design engineers, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of design outputs.
Key Responsibilities
1. Ensure compliance with design, construction, and safety standards.
2. Liaise with customers on network design issues to ensure compliance with ESP standards, legislation, and industry regulations.
3. Manage applications for network connections and asset adoption works.
4. Evaluate network reinforcement requirements and maintain Guaranteed Standards of Service.
5. Negotiate capacity and demand with upstream parties.
6. Model the network for demand and generation using IPSA or similar software.
7. Develop safety and risk assessments for design and adoption stages.
8. Ensure compliance with health and safety policies and asset management systems.
9. Assess land rights needs and collaborate with customers to minimize legal issues.
10. Oversee quality assurance for electrical designs, ensuring standards and regulations are met.
11. Engage in personal development and attend relevant training.
12. Have LV, HV, and EHV network design experience, proficient with design software like WinDebut and IPSA.
