Applications are invited for the posts of Consultants in Diabetes and Endocrinology. Initially we are seeking to appoint 2 substantive and 1 fixed term (12 months) Consultants in the specialty of Diabetes, Endocrine & Metabolic Medicine.
This is an exciting time to be joining the department of Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic medicine at South Tyneside & Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust. In conjunction with the existing consultants, you will work towards enhancing our existing services and expanding to develop new dedicated services, all striving towards providing safer high-quality care.
The Metabolic department in the trust is split across two sites at Sunderland Royal Hospital (SRH) and South Tyneside (ST); it is a dynamic and forward-thinking team dedicated to providing a high-quality patient experience through innovation, education, clinical effectiveness, and efficiency. The department believes strongly in a patient-centred team working philosophy.
We are looking for highly motivated, innovative, and skilled individuals who are passionate about delivering high-quality care within Endocrinology and Diabetes.

Main duties of the job
Applicants would be expected to work alongside the existing consultant team in supporting the unit as a whole. Applicants would contribute to the specialty in-patient cover, the out of hours rota, and would contribute to the general medical ward and on-call duties.
The department currently provides consultant-led and delivered specialist clinics in Diabetes, these include: Ante Natal, Pre-Conceptual, Ambulatory Rapid/Care, Young Persons & Transitional, Dedicated Type 1 service, Diabetes Technology, Complex Type 2 and Foot MDT clinics, In-patient Diabetes care. These are supported by highly experienced DSNs, Dietitians, Clinical Psychologists, and Specialist Podiatrists. The Endocrine service encompasses dedicated group and collaborative clinics in: Pituitary, Adrenal, Parathyroid, & Thyroid, Bone, Reproductive Endocrinology, Fertility services, and Thyroid Eye. A sub-regional dedicated Lipid service has been established for many years at Sunderland.

Job responsibilities
As a medical consultant at South Tyneside & Sunderland NHS FT Trust, you will have continuing responsibility for the care of your inpatients and outpatients when necessary; you will be in charge of inpatients of consultant colleagues during periods of on-call duty, holidays, study leave, and (short term) sickness. You will be expected to supervise junior medical staff allocated to you, and you may be a nominated educational and/or clinical supervisor to identified junior medical staff assigned to the metabolic department with appropriate training provided if necessary. You will also be expected to undertake as part of the team an active role in regular departmental Clinical Governance meetings, including morbidity & mortality (M&M) reviews.
As the consultant team expands, we envisage rotating cover across the two sites; you will be expected to undertake daily ward rounds, board rounds, and administrative duties directly associated with the care of patients and the running of clinics.
You will share responsibility for the provision and development of the Metabolic service with the consultant team.

Qualifications
* MB ChB or equivalent
* MRCP or equivalent
* Full registration with GMC
* Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of expected date of CCT in Diabetes, Endocrinology, and general medicine
* Postgraduate Thesis
* HRUK exam or equivalent
Skills and Knowledge
* Evidence of working in a multi-disciplinary team

* Evidence of teaching and training skills for junior doctors
