Prevention and Recovery Worker Cwm Taf and Bridgend Drug and Alcohol Service Job Description Role Drug and alcohol worker (Prevention and recovery) Service Cwm Taf and Bridgend Drug and Alcohol Service Location: Flexibility to work across all areas of Cwm Taf Morgannwg, where appropriate is essential, however this post will be based in Cwm Taf. Base: To discussed on appointment (Aberdare/Merthyr Tydfil/Pontypridd) Hours: 37 hours per week Salary: £25,750 - £27,759 per annum Reports to: Cwm Taf and Bridgend Prevention and Recovery Team Leader Team Members Reporting to Job Holder: No direct reports Contract: Permanent, in line with funding. THE SERVICE The aim of the Cwm Taf and Bridgend Drug and Alcohol Service is to engage people who use drugs or alcohol, and or their concerned others, in the treatment system and support them when accessing it. This includes early intervention, engaging and assessing service users, needle exchange, brief interventions, outreach, training, case management, health promotion and harm reduction initiatives and recovery and aftercare services. Barod services are provided in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory, and professional manner and in a way that demonstrates courtesy and respect for individuals using substances, and sensitivity to their unique personal situations and experiences. ROLE PURPOSE The Drug and alcohol worker (Prevention and recovery) will help support entry into the CTDAS and BDAS provision and help raise awareness of the effects of substance use, local trends and health harms across both adults, children and young people in Cwm Taf and Bridgend. They will proactively raise awareness with those at risk of harmful and hazardous substance use, including the consequences of use. The Drug and alcohol worker (Prevention and recovery) will co-ordinate all recovery activities within Cwm Taf and Bridgend, to support service users within their recovery journey by building recovery capital to move into long term sustained recovery and social (re)integration. They will be responsible for ensuring Service Users have access to a space that is well managed, well equipped and well directed to enhance recovery journeys. The recovery focused project will promote positive health and wellbeing to support and strengthen community integration and re-integration. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To raise awareness of the harms associated with Substance Use and the effect on individuals, families and communities Identify people who are at risk of harm from alcohol and drugs as early as possible and provide early intervention and/or prompt referral to services where needed Identify where individuals are in existing services and signpost individuals, who are notengaged with services into appropriate treatment To train the wider workforce within Cwm Taf and Bridgend to improve general awareness of substance use issues and available services and referral routes and enable them to deliver brief interventions where appropriate Be responsive to intelligence around trends in substance use Using a service user led approach, establish a recovery service which includes; peer led support, self-help and service user involvement To promote recovery by helping to develop and maintain own individual resources and resilience To promote and support the recovery ethos throughout the whole (Integrated) service To promote the CTDAS and BDAS service and key messages to individuals, groups, communities, and other agencies via various communication channels, empowering them to make healthy choices To work collaboratively with stakeholders to develop and deliver preventative and promotional measures that can take place at a population level and which have a positive impact on the health of a community To deliver awareness sessions, workshops, and educational events in various settings for adults, children and young people To develop, deliver and evaluate campaigns and awareness raising opportunities that will promote the work of the service to potential service users and other agencies Use outreach to engage proactively with children, young people, adults and potential high-risk groups to allow early identification of substance use issues and prompt intervention as appropriate Provide a targeted outreach service to individuals who are identified as “hard to reach” to encourage engagement with treatment services To promote the Point of Entry for CTDAS and BDAS and liaise with the Engagement and Low Intensity team in identifying opportunities for Early Intervention To assist in the day-to-day operation of the service, ensuring a safe and appropriate environment for all To mentor, supervise and support peer educators and volunteers To record beneficiary data and outcomes in accordance with Barod policy to ensure the integrity of information included in Quarterly and Annual Reports to commissioners To support colleagues, volunteers and sessional workers providing advice and guidance as appropriate to ensure that care standards are maintained and that service users receive the most appropriate care Ensure good working relationships are established and maintained with beneficiaries, families/carers, service partners and Barod team and management To develop your own knowledge and practice, attend supervision and team meetings so as to fulfil your role as an effective member of the team To develop and co-ordinate the drop- in provision, whilst providing a range of suitably focused facilities and activities programmes To develop, train, manage and motivate a team of service user volunteers to provide high quality support and practical assistance To develop relationships with key local partners to maximise the opportunities for social re-integration, skill development, and peer/social/family support Maintain an up to date programme of recovery-based activities and projects, detailing all aspects of the running and outcomes of such events, in line with Barod policy Provide structured relapse prevention support on a one to one basis and within a group setting Record the expenditure for activities and support the management team to maintain and plan the budget. To be responsible for advertising and promotion of the work through a variety of methods in a creative manner including social media/networks, website, ‘word of mouth’, local advertising and producing information for publications, leaflets and web page. Promote and encourage service user and concerned other participation in local, regional and national recovery events Research and produce information for publications, leaflets and web pages Provide training or talks to internal staff or external organisations as required To develop your own knowledge and practice, attend supervision and team meetings so as to fulfil your role as an effective member of the team Enter data onto the relevant case management systems, such as Palbase Enter data onto all other required databases such as NEO Engage service users via open access at the base, on a rota basis Undertake other reasonable duties as requested, but which may not be specified within the job description Other duties Contribute to the development and review of organisational policies and procedures as and when appropriate. Proven ability to network and build professional relationships. The ability to compile, maintain and complete accurate written records, including data capture and the use of case management systems. Excellent literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills, with a close attention to detail. Knowledge of substance use treatment and care pathways Knowledge of substance use including evidence based therapeutic interventions. Experience of facilitating group work and/or therapeutic interventions Experience or knowledge of community engagement Experience or knowledge of marketing and promoting services Experience of delivering training in a professional capacity.
