We are looking to recruit a Vaccination Nurse (AFC Band 5) for 22.5 hours per week, 7 months fixed term/secondment opportunity.
Main Job Description:
To work with a maternity vaccination team delivering the vaccination programme as mandated by NHS England to pregnant women and birthing people. The post holder will support improving the uptake rate and safe delivery of the maternal vaccination programme within Barnsley hospital, contributing towards the public health agenda by improving health outcomes for pregnant women and their babies.
Main Duties of the Job:
This is an opportunity to join the maternity vaccination team in offering and administering the current vaccination programme to pregnant women and birthing people. The role purpose includes the following (this list is not exhaustive):
1. Effectively run a nurse-led vaccination clinic within a maternity area caring for pregnant and postnatal women.
2. Ensure that high standards of patient care are maintained, adhering to Maternity Unit policies and procedures.
3. Administer maternal vaccinations and immunisations under Trust agreed Patient Group Directives.
4. Communicate with women and their families ensuring adequate understanding of their care pathway to ensure information delivered is with empathy and reassurance.
5. Actively involve in health promotional activities and give advice, including signposting women to other services to improve health and outcomes.
6. Work closely with members of the multidisciplinary team to escalate safeguarding issues.
7. Practice in accordance with Trust policies, guidelines, standards and statutory requirements, and operate within defined competency boundaries.
8. Monitor drug usage, ordering additional supplies as required. Ensure equipment is in good repair and used appropriately with faults being reported.
9. Record vaccinations on patient electronic records and the national reporting mechanisms.

Knowledge and Awareness
Essential:
* Working knowledge of infection control procedures and policies underpinning clinical practice.

Qualifications
Essential:
* Current NMC Registered Nurse.
* Experience of giving vaccinations/immunisations.

* Demonstrate awareness of health and safety issues related to the vaccination delivery programme.
Desirable:
* Current Flu, COVID-19, AND Pertussis (Whooping Cough) vaccination competency.
* Trained in the use of national reporting systems.
Experience
Essential:
* Experience of delivering vaccinations within hospitals/community settings.
* Experience of working within an acute health care setting delivering personal and clinical care.
* Aware of accountability of own role and other roles in a nurse-led service.
Desirable:
* Significant experience of working within maternity services.
