Job Title Production Engineer Department Manufacturing Improvement Location Colchester Woods Air Movement specialises in the design, test, certification, and manufacture of axial fans for a wide range of industrial, life applications. Main Purpose of Role: Reporting to the Manufacturing Improvement Leader, the role holder will be responsible for the interpretation of engineering data ready for manufacture. Working within a team of Production Engineers the role will focus on the factory's primary manufacturing areas. The role will include providing accurate routings, suitable tooling, and CNC programming. Main Duties & Responsibilities: AX Routing - (plus part modifications) – working with the other PE’s - full responsibility for clearing the status and revisions including: Understanding manufacturing and assembly capability. Ensure Engineering design to suit or process modified accordingly. Create both assembly and primary routings (including times) and builds. Ensuring that tooling and/or fixtures are identified, referenced and in place for manufacturing. Check that drawings are available on PDM Refer to Engineering before release. Complete relevant KPI – maintain average to below 1 day regardless. CNC Programming – create part and nest programs as required to support production and costing/NPI. Maintain parts file and return data. Ensure software updates are carried out and any enhancements are utilised. Self-develop via user groups or web-based training. Production support – first point of contact and visible presence on shop floor to keep production running. Working closely with production operatives to maintain and define standards whilst driving improvements in process efficiencies and productivity. Drawing on close relationships with other departments to effect positive and sustainable change. Using the foundation of H&S and 5s. Supporting Maintenance – with both reactive and PM. Issue and update weekly PM sheets as required and make sure that standard working instructions are available and current. Source and order spares (both frontline and ad-hoc). Use the Process Walk to identify potential preventative actions. Be point of contact for external servicing (e.g. Trumpf). Drive initiatives to involve to TPM. Lean Manufacturing – support the company lean initiative. Embrace the change culture by highlighting and/or supporting improvement opportunities. Actively seek out the opportunity to learn and develop. NPI, RTC and Costing – feedback best practise to engineering or customer enquiries. Support and contribute to cost reduction or VA initiatives as per objectives. Provide costings as requested; provide full internal costs (highlighting OH value). Feedback using existing process capabilities and/or limitations, alternatives, tooling/fixture costs and possible improved material utilisation. Performance Management – complete objectives as set using the Actus software and defined during 1-2-1 sessions. Contribute to process improvement and ensure targets are met in a timely fashion to standards expected. Identify self-development opportunities to bridge any skill or capability gap. Layouts – maintain Master Layout drawing. Contribute to change proposals and realisation. This job description is not regarded to be exhaustive of all duties and activities required by the post. Person Specification/Profile: ● Minimum 5 years’ experience in an assembly and component manufacturing environments. ● Minimum HNC or equivalent in a relevant discipline. ● Proven understanding of how a modern manufacturing plant functions, with implementation of Lean techniques. ● Understanding of project management techniques ● Proven implementation of process improvement techniques ● Ambitious, desire to grow and develop within the organisation ● Good interpersonal, influencing and project management skills. A desire for innovation and creativity. ● Able to communicate clearly at all levels, on both written and verbal basis. This may include external suppliers and customers. ● Knowledge of the Lean methodology and implementation. Examples of 5’s’, SMED, Poke-Yoke, TPM etc. ● Team working and leading skills.
