Pay Rate: £12.94 per hour PAYE
Hours per week: 37 Monday – Friday, normal working hours
Role Length: This opening assignment is for 3-4 months

The purpose of the role is to deliver the work of the Derbyshire Discretionary Fund efficiently and effectively, making independent decisions on applications within the Council’s policies and procedures, and interacting with applicants and professionals with discretion and empathy.
Key Responsibilities:
Undertake thorough and consistent assessments of applications to the Derbyshire.
Discretionary Fund (DDF) in line with departmental policies and guidance.
Carry out investigations into applications, liaising with applicants.
Carry out the administration process of successful applications to ensure prompt.
and accurate awards/payments are made. In this respect the accurate and timely maintenance of payments systems will be required.
Ensure that applicants’ records are maintained in an effective manner.
Provide advice and information regarding DDF processes to applicants, their representatives and to Council staff, to assist with the delivery of an effective service.
Assist in the briefing/training of staff in other teams/departments about the scope and work of the DDF.
Liaise with professionals and colleagues from external agencies to gather information, convey decisions, and build wider understanding of the work of the DDF.
Have an awareness of national welfare benefits legislation and procedures.
Qualifications:
A level, or level 3 qualification in a relevant area.
Experience:
Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
Broad administration or finance experience.
Experience liaising with external agencies.
Experience dealing with members of the public / customers with sensitivity and tact.
Experience in decision making in a complex but well-structured framework.
Skills & Abilities:
Excellent numeracy skills.
Time management/work prioritisation skills to enable deadlines to be achieved.
Ability to plan and organise own work to produce a high level of output to quality standards.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills (both for recruitment purposes only Date: written and verbal) including the ability to speak fluent English in order to be able to communicate fully with applicants.
Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
