This post is for a full-time Clinical Fellow in Gastroenterology.
The post will be expected to be able to travel to all 3 Trust hospital sites (Watford General Hospital, Hemel Hempstead Hospital, and St Albans Hospital).
The role will involve continuing responsibility for the care of both elective and non-elective patients, including all administrative duties associated with patient care.
As part of a team, you will work with the Consultants, Resident doctors, Nurses, Administrative and Management team to provide elective and non-elective care to our patients. The post holder will be expected to take part in Clinical Governance Meetings and be involved in Audit within the Department.
Main duties of the job
This is a full-time post with no on-call commitment. There are regular opportunities to perform out-of-hours on-call work for extra remuneration if desired. The post will primarily involve assessment and management of patients with upper gastrointestinal complaints.
The service aims of this post are:
1. To provide a local service for earlier detection of oesophageal carcinoma by running a Capsule Sponge Test service.
2. To improve the access and assessment of patients referred on the suspected upper GI cancer 2-week wait pathway.
3. To be trained and provide endoscopy OGD list.
4. To provide outpatient clinics.
5. To be trained and provide PH study and manometry service.
The post holder will be timetabled for 2.5 outpatient clinics per week, capsule sponge test telephone clinics, and endoscopy sessions. These clinics will include patients referred on the suspected upper GI cancer 2-week wait pathway and also a mixture of general gastroenterology patients.
The post holder will have the opportunity to attend 1-2 OGD training lists per week and run independent sessions once fully signed off.

The post holder will be involved in reviewing general gastroenterology specialist referrals along with the other registrars and consultants. They will also cover the gastroenterology inpatient ward.
