Business Intelligence Lead (NIHR) (XN08)
We are seeking a dynamic, self-motivated and passionate person with experience overseeing and developing an organisation's Business Intelligence function.
Do you have experience managing a team to deliver BI solutions for organisations with multiple stakeholders? Delivering quality assured evidence-based insights to inform business decisions?
The role will include line management of Business Intelligence Analysts, Data Scientists, and Information Managers.
Can you provide advanced technical support and describe technical solutions to a non-technical audience? Do you have experience producing self-reporting dashboards in data visualisation environments such as Qlik or Tableau?
The role will include developing informatics delivery, ensuring user requirements are met with accurate and well-presented outputs supporting the NIHR mission to improve the health and wealth of the nation through research.

Main Duties of the Job
Working within a small friendly team, you will support the Assistant Director in overseeing a team performing a variety of business intelligence, data science, and information-related tasks. These include reviewing and maintaining the NIHR Academy data warehouse, providing information in response to parliamentary questions, providing innovative data science solutions, and developing dashboards and analytics to support the NIHR in demonstrating the difference it makes.
Main duties will include providing leadership and technical expertise to the BI functions, working with relational databases with MS SQL Server and ETL tools such as SSIS. You will provide advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of BI Architecture including Extract, Transform and Load (ETL), SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services), Data Warehousing, data science methodologies, and Data Modelling.
You will oversee the production of reports and data visualisation in Qlik or Tableau using a variety of data sources to meet business needs. Our current data warehouse is in the cloud; therefore, experience with Microsoft Azure or Amazon AWS may also be beneficial.

Job Responsibilities
Specialist Programme Expertise and Leadership
* Support the Assistant Director for Evaluation, Business Intelligence and Impact in leading the development and operation of the organisation's Business Intelligence Information and data systems.
* Work with the Assistant Director - Evaluation, Business Intelligence and Impact to identify approaches for Business Intelligence system solutions, data visualisations, and analytics.
* Provide specialist knowledge of BI Architecture including ETL, SSIS, Data Warehousing, and Data Modelling.
* Produce reports to an agreed standard to meet the requirements of the NIHR Academy Executive Board.
* Assist the Assistant Director for Evaluation, Business Intelligence and Impact with the preparation of reports and papers for strategic and policy meetings.
* Evaluate outputs, formulate, and present highly complex ideas of future reporting developments.
* Oversee the implementation and delivery of new BI initiatives, policies, and projects.
* Produce analytical options papers to contribute to decision-making and action planning.
* Provide support into how data quality and integrity can be maintained as part of business improvement plans.
* Act as the initial focal point for BI queries, providing key support for answering Parliamentary Questions.
* Manage and lead the development of methods of collection and analysis of data to ensure accuracy of sources and data resilience.
* Monitor data quality standards by collating data produced from data quality reports.
Communications and Engagement
* Identify and understand the business needs, prioritising and implementing Business Intelligence tools and processes.
* Maintain regular liaison with Business Intelligence Analysts across NIHR.
* Train NIHR Academy's programme management staff in the effective use of data visualisation tools.
* Work with the Assistant Director for Evaluation, Business Intelligence and Impact to communicate complex information relating to business intelligence developments.
* Deliver presentations to NIHR stakeholder groups.
Technical
* Provide specialist knowledge across a wide range of BI tools supporting ETL, Data Warehousing, Modelling, Dashboards, and Reporting.
* Ensure the NIHR Academy Executive is up to date with developments in appropriate technologies.
* Plan and implement projects appropriate to the role.
Information Resources
* Coordinate production of analysis, publications, datasets, documentation, and briefing.
* Design and develop automated reporting processes.
* Ensure NIHR Academy meets national information governance guidelines.
Staff Management and Supervision
* Provide leadership and line management including the direct supervision of 2 staff.

Qualifications
* Masters level degree in a science, mathematics, or computing discipline or equivalent experience.
