The post is based in a brand new, modern and well-equipped Imaging Department which opened early 2024. There will be a rotation of duties within the site, and the successful applicants will work with our friendly team of Radiographers, Sonographers, and Radiologists in our new busy and dynamic department.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will work closely with the Radiographers, Ultrasonographers, and Consultant staff to fulfil the commitment to provide a high-quality service to patients undergoing diagnostic procedures. They will oversee and coordinate the outpatient waiting areas; assist with preparing patients for their CT, MR, or ultrasound scans and care for them during and after their examinations. There will be a need to cannulate some of these patients and/or take blood samples for testing. A flexible approach and a strong work ethic in this busy environment is required to meet the needs of the service.
Job responsibilities
* Contribute as part of the imaging team to the diagnostic imaging process.
* Maintain high standards of appearance, manner, punctuality, and competence.
* Undertake all mandatory training required for the role.
* Work as part of a well-motivated team.
* Escort patients both within and outside the department.
* Chaperone both patients and staff during examinations.
* Pay due attention to privacy, dignity, and respect at all times.
* Enable/assist patients to maintain their personal hygiene, aid in the dressing/undressing of patients, and enable/assist patients with eating/drinking as required.
* Enable/assist patients to access and use toilet facilities.
* Preparation of the patient and work area for a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic examinations including cleaning and decontamination of equipment between patients.
* Take part in cannulation of patients.
* Take part in venipuncture of patients.
* Take part in point of care testing of blood or biological samples including labelling and processing samples.
* Provide support for the point of care testing in troubleshooting equipment, replacing faulty equipment, and performing QC on the equipment.
* Ensure adequate stock levels of consumable items in any of the work areas.
* Unpack stock as required, informing senior staff of discrepancies and shortages.
* Assist with obtaining, transmitting, and storing information related to the imaging process.
* Record accurately any test results into systems.
* Receive messages, answer telephone queries, and communicate effectively with other members of the team.
* Participate in clerical duties including patient registration, obtaining previous radiology records, and using the radiology information computer system as required.
* Contribute to maintaining cleanliness of equipment and the general work environment within the department.
* Contribute to the health & safety and security of individuals and the workplace.
* Participate in developments relating to clinical governance including audit and quality control duties.
* Any other duties that may be relevant to the achievement of the NVQ Level 2 or 3 competencies.
* To undertake duties across a seven-day working week between 8 am and 8 pm.
* To be aware of and observe all relevant department, Trust, and legislative policies and procedures including Health & Safety at work, COSHH, Data Protection Act, Ionising Radiation Regulations, MRI safety, fire, control of infection, and Major incident.
* Have the physical capability and manual dexterity to work in all areas of the department or designated areas as required, and have a strong work ethic.
* Contribute to the effective running of the department by covering for colleagues on annual/sick leave.
* The jobholder must comply at all times with Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Health and Safety policies, in particular by following agreed safe working procedures and reporting incidents using the Trust’s Risk Incident Reporting System.

Person Specification
Experience
* Care work in a care home, community care, or hospital setting.
* Working with members of the public.
* Good basic IT skills and working knowledge of Office (email-outlook, Word, and Excel).
Skills
* Good verbal and written command of English.
* Good numeracy skills (demonstrated through qualifications or experience).
* Accuracy and methodical with an attention to detail.
* Previous laboratory experience.
Knowledge
* Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality.
* BLS.
* Moving and handling training.
Qualifications
* Minimum NVQ/QCF Diploma or Apprenticeship at Level 2 in Health & Social Care, or in Support Work or equivalent.
* Care Certificate or equivalent (Desirable for Band 2 RA).
