Richard Huish College has a strong reputation regionally in its offer of a wide range of A level and vocational courses in Taunton and the surrounding areas in Somerset. We are seeking to recruit a caring, proactive and enthusiastic Learning Support Officer to work with students identified as requiring further support in their study programme. This will include a caseload of students with an Educational Health Care Plan.
This could be an ideal role for someone who wants to explore whether special educational needs or teaching is the right move for their future career direction. It could also be an ideal role for someone who has stopped teaching but misses working with young people to support them to achieve their potential.
The aim of the of this important work is to support students to learn independent study skills and to achieve on their study programme. Learning Support Officer tasks could include 1:1 support, small group work, exam invigilation and in class support.
Support resources will be available, and these can be tailored to meet group and individual student needs. Communication with subject teaching teams is also expected, to update student progress and to ensure the delivery of the support is meeting the needs of the students. It is also expected that the Learning Support Officer will make appropriate interventions where a student is not attending or engaging with the support on offer, for example making contact with parents/carers.

· Salary: £23,585-£26,097 FTE Point 7-11 on the Support Staff Scale (actual salary £12,371-£13,689) depending on experience
· Hours: 22hrs per week - days flexible to be discussed at interview.
· Contract: Permanent, term time only (39 weeks)
