Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join a specialist multi-disciplinary team, providing holistic assessment and appropriate intervention to children and young people with gender incongruence and their families. The Children and Young People's Gender Service has been commissioned by NHS England to provide a service consistent with the recommendations and service specification following the Cass Review. This service will initially provide assessment and intervention for children and young people with gender incongruence across England and in time will become a Regional Service.
This post offers the opportunity to work across a variety of settings to provide a comprehensive Occupational Therapy service on an out-patient and outreach basis including community and school liaison usually virtually but may involve travelling. As part of the Team, the OT will provide specialist assessment and advice, consultation, and liaison with families and local therapy and external agencies involved in the care of children and young people with gender incongruence and where appropriate other co-occurring conditions. The post holder will promote the development of this service as a member of the multidisciplinary team and provide a source of expertise.
The post holder will provide line management and leadership support to the Occupational Therapists working in the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.
Main duties of the job
Provide a specialised Occupational Therapy service including assessment, treatment, and management of children and young people with Gender Incongruence and co-occurring conditions. Co-occurring conditions may include some of the following: autism, ADHD, sensory integration disorder, dyspraxia, eating disorders including ARFID.
To be a core member of the CYP Gender Service, assisting in the development, planning, and progression of service provision, working across and within traditional professional and organisational boundaries in hospital, education, and community settings.
To become a source of expertise and demonstrate advanced knowledge and experience in the highly skilled management of children with Gender Incongruence and co-occurring conditions.
To provide specialist advice and clinical education to other members of the multi-disciplinary team, presenting at local, national, and international meetings.
To support the wider Paediatric Occupational Therapy Team as required.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
* Degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy
* Registration with HCPC
* Evidence of relevant post-graduate continuing professional development
* Further training in a related area e.g. sensory integration therapy, ACT
* Registration with RCOT
Knowledge and Experience
* Significant post-graduate experience across a wide range of specialties
* Experience of working with children and young people either in the community or in a hospital setting at senior level (Band 7 or above)
* Evidence of working within a multidisciplinary team with a clear understanding of each discipline's roles and expectations
* Previous experience of research, audit, and/or service development
* Evidence of managing a complex caseload
* Experience of supporting improved function alongside local services
* Experience working within a relevant area e.g. Neurodiversity, CAMHS, Community Paediatrics, specialist education provision
* Experience working in community settings e.g. schools
Skills and Abilities
* Excellent organisational and time management skills
* Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
* Demonstrable IT skills e.g. Word, Excel
* Ability to work independently as an autonomous practitioner
* Proven responsibility for own decision making whilst working closely within a team
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to travel to clinics in the regions
