About Network Rail
At Network Rail, we're part of a large family serving millions of passengers and freight users throughout the UK every day. Our service impacts millions of people and we strive to become more efficient as we enhance, maintain and operate our network.
Brief Description
You'll help keep our nation moving every single day. This critical part of the work involves the daily upkeep of the rail network. As a technician, you'll work outdoors in a team, supporting essential maintenance to keep the railway running safely and smoothly for passengers and freight users.
About the role (External)
Our technicians provide the essential link between the team leader and the team's operatives, and can specialise in a range of disciplines. For this role, you'll become a specialist in Signalling & Telecoms, working with equipment including signals that control train movements, level crossings, and points systems.
Being safety-focused, respectful of rules, and a team player is critical as you'll often be working next to moving trains. You will lead the team when asked and ensure the team has the right competencies to meet our strict safety standards.
Your skills matter
You don't necessarily need rail experience, but you do need to show how your transferrable skills meet the following:
1. Leadership: Able to lead, motivate and direct a team for safe and efficient work delivery.
2. Effective communicator: Strong communication skills to deliver clear instructions.
3. Technical skills: Knowledge and experience of inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal techniques in the discipline.
4. Safety: Role model safe behaviours and can implement safe systems of work.
5. Problem solver: Persistent in finding safe and effective solutions.
6. Willingness to learn: Commitment to developing skills and competencies.
7. Relevant qualification: Ideally hold an NVQ Level 1 or 2 linked to the discipline or equivalent relevant experience.
Additional Information:
Shifts involve a changing pattern including days, nights and weekends. You will need a driving licence (category B) and to be within a 60-minute commute of the location.
Benefits:
Privileged staff travel, subsidies on rail and underground season tickets, healthcare offers, flexible working, and 5 days paid volunteering leave.
Company:
Every day, 4.8 million people use our network. We believe that investing in our people is one of the most effective ways of improving the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the railway.
What Diversity and Inclusion means to us:
'Diversity' means recognising differences while valuing contributions, and 'Inclusion' means creating safe and welcoming workplaces.
Network Rail is an accredited Disability Confident Leader. Where a disabled applicant meets the essential criteria for any of our vacancies, they will receive an interview.
