Engineering Technician – Baggage

Are you our next Engineering Technician – Baggage? We are seeking a skilled individual to help us redefine our Engineering department's capabilities.
About the Engineering Team: They deliver essential services by maintaining and repairing infrastructure, including electrical systems, plant rooms, and specialist equipment on the airfield.
Role Overview: You will conduct planned and reactive maintenance on baggage system equipment at Gatwick Airport, ensuring high standards and maximum operational uptime. The role involves shift work, including nights and weekends.
Key Assets: Complex Conveyor Systems, Sortation Machines, Carousels, Scanners, PLCs, and IT-based Control Systems.
Responsibilities:
1. Perform preventative and corrective maintenance, considering asset performance and operational needs.
2. Maintain accurate engineering and operational records per business, regulatory, and manufacturer standards.
3. Support performance improvement activities and programmes.
4. Prioritize safety, including PPE use, mandatory training, and incident reporting.
5. Utilize GAL IT systems (Ultimo, MyHub, P2W, Microsoft Office).
6. Develop skills to maintain and operate existing and new assets to ensure optimal performance.
7. Complete role-specific training.
8. Work across passenger-facing and back-of-house areas within the airport.
9. Collaborate effectively with team members. This role does not have direct reports.
Candidate Requirements:
1. Advanced Modern Apprenticeship (Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronic) or equivalent.
2. Core skills in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering at least ONC Level 3.
3. Experience in a maintenance environment.
4. Ability to interpret electrical and mechanical schematic drawings.
5. Proven experience in relevant engineering disciplines.
6. Ability to implement system performance improvements.
7. Knowledge of 17th Edition IEE wiring regulations.
8. Valid driving license.
Interview Process:
1. Virtual discussion (30 mins) with the hiring manager.
2. Technical assessment (1 hour) with Hiring Manager and Engineering Leader.
