Job overview
We are seeking to appoint two permanent Consultants in Diabetes and Endocrinology to join our talented and dedicated multi-disciplinary team at Prince Charles Hospital.
The post-holder will be involved in developing the diabetes and endocrinology service. The successful applicant will have opportunities to develop other interests within diabetes and endocrinology. To facilitate this, we have strong links with paediatrics, vascular, podiatry, and obstetrics within the Health Board.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will have training and specialist certification in Diabetes and Endocrinology and will provide a safe and efficient specialist Diabetes service for Prince Charles Hospital while contributing to acute and general medicine service requirements. Key duties include:
* Contribute to high demand diabetes speciality activities along with colleagues in the department.
* Contribute to delivery of care for patients with complex diabetes needs in secondary care.
* Provide senior clinical decision making during on-call cover.
* Participate in annual job planning and appraisal. The post-holder will be required to maintain their continuing professional development for successful revalidation.
* Undertake statutory and mandatory training and essential job role training determined by the department and organisation.

Person specification
Education/Qualifications and Training
* MRCP(UK) or equivalent
* Full GMC registration and license to practise in the UK
* Must be on the GMC specialist register for Diabetes and Endocrinology by the date of interview or have a CCT or CESR date within 6 months of the date of interview
* An appropriate higher degree, (e.g. MD, PhD or equivalent)
Knowledge, personal skills and abilities
* Good organisational and communication skills (both written and verbal)
* Proven ability to work under pressure
* Commitment to teamwork and pursuit of the corporate agenda of the employer
* Understanding of management priorities within the NHS
* Experience of and participation in clinical audit
* Proven clinical ability to a high standard
* Experience of developing and participating in teaching programmes for trainees and medical students
* Understanding of budget management and leadership skills
* Ability to produce and implement guidelines/protocols based on evidence-based practice
* Publication(s) in professional journals/evidence of papers presented at national/international meetings
* Sub-specialisation and special interests within Diabetes and Endocrinology
Experience
* Extensive experience & training in Diabetes and Endocrinology
* Working knowledge/experience of the NHS
* Previous experience as a locum or substantive consultant
