The Department of Mechanical Engineering, within the School of Computing, Engineering and Built Environment, is a dynamic and vibrant academic community with a strong track record in applied research, innovative teaching, and knowledge transfer activities. The department brings together a highly motivated and exciting team with skills and expertise in the development and delivery of industrially relevant undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of study and an excellent track record in sustaining and growing research and knowledge transfer links with Industry.
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational lecturer to contribute to the continued growth of our department. The primary purpose of this appointment is to play a leading role in the learning and teaching and research, and the management of selected modules within our undergraduate, postgraduate and Graduate Apprenticeship programmes in Mechanical Engineering.
The candidate should demonstrate appropriate expertise and the ability to teach a wide range of mechanical engineering subject disciplines and their application to real-world problems. The candidate should be able to demonstrate understanding of finite element analysis, engineering design, material selection under mechanical loading and how to design and manufacture components. The role would require the use of software such as ANSYS, ANSYS Edu Pack, PTC Creo, Python, and MATLAB. Additionally, the candidate will expand our external collaboration networks for both research and teaching, contribute to new and enhanced curricula and taught provision in areas relevant to Mechanical Engineering, and inspire current and future students.
Applicants should have a postgraduate degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering or equivalent and have completed a doctorate or be nearing completion of a doctorate in a relevant subject area. Applicants should have prior academic experience in teaching and learning, and substantial research experience in relevant subject areas. Experience of applied research or systems development, and a strong personal desire and commitment to engage in innovative teaching and research, grant funding applications and/or consultancy/CPD services are essential.
For an informal discussion on any aspects of the role, please contact Professor Babakalli Alkali, Head of Department Mechanical Engineering at babakalli.alkali@gcu.ac.uk or on 0141 331 3576.
