An exciting opportunity has risen in the Transfusion Laboratory Services department at theWelsh Blood Service for the role of Lead Scientist, Projects and Education. We are looking for an experienced leader with strong blood group serology and education background to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate be responsible for the provision of technical and scientific advice to the Head of Transfusion Laboratory Services and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) as a subject matter expert on transfusion science and scientific education. They will be required to demonstrate compassionate leadership skills and proactively manage competing demands. IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a part time position (0.5 FTE), on a Bank Contract basis. Main duties of the job Key aspects of this role include: • Overseeing and leading projects and initiatives in a number of areas including the Red Cell Immunohaematology service. • Facilitate the scientific development of other staff, and be an education resource to other scientific professionals. • Be an expert in the field of blood transfusion and will be required to represent the Welsh Blood Service at relevant professional and scientific groups both nationally and internationally as required. • Provide effective scientific scrutiny and promote a culture of evidenced based research and development, and continuous service development within the scientific areas of the service. • The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply. Person Specification Qualifications Essential • oHonours Degree in a biological science • oMSc in Transfusion Science or assessed equivalent knowledge • oRegistration as a Healthcare Scientist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Desirable • oPost grad qualification in Training and Education (PGCE, IBMS Certificate of Extended Practice) • oPost-Graduate qualification in Management or Leadership Experience Essential • oExtensive experience working in a Blood Transfusion Laboratory • oDetailed knowledge and expertise of current practices and anticipated developments in Transfusion Science and the clinical use of Plasma-Derived Medicines
