We are currently looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our Accrington team in the position of Maintenance Kiln car welder/fitter.
The role holder will play a safe and active part in maintenance activities in repairs to kiln cars, being responsible to rectify all issues safely and effectively to enable the continuity and productivity of the plant, to achieve current safety, output, and quality targets.
Your duties would include but are not limited to the following:
* Before work commences on any item of plant/machinery, all relevant safe work procedures must be sought and followed, together with an assessment made if needed with maintenance electricians, maintenance fitters, plant foreman, and management of what is required to enable the task involved to be carried out in the safest way possible, issuing permits.
* At the start of each shift, hold an informative daily meeting discussing health and safety, outstanding work, and work scheduled.
* Comply with SQCDP system, keep records, and update data.
* Repair all kiln cars by removing and replacing all defective steel.
* Assist with stripping down kiln car hardware [blocks].
* Kiln car greasing.
* Carry out the installation, maintenance, and repair of plant and equipment.
* Provide technical expertise to support plant requirements.
* Ensure all installations are completed in accordance with specifications provided.
* Report to Mechanical/Electrical Lead or Maintenance Manager for an informative daily meeting discussing health and safety, outstanding work, and work scheduled.
* Ensure all PPMs are carried out to a specific timescale; ensure all maintenance issues are resolved, recorded, and maintenance records are kept up to date.
* Monitor a good tracking system for PPMs.
* Return all tools used to their correct place and all debris to the correct skip.
* Ensure critical spares for kiln cars are in place; liaise with Mechanical and Electrical Lead.
* Provide support to the production and maintenance teams during kiln shutdowns.
* Maintain a clean and safe working area throughout the kilns and dryers.
* Inspect kiln car conditions and report for immediate repair if necessary (Kiln car wheels, framework, etc.).
* Ensure all hard copy records are stored and presented in a clean and clear condition.
* Complete all PPM records.
* Ensure when carrying out any work, a full risk assessment is carried out.
* Before using any vibration tools, ensure all monitoring equipment and register is up to date and ensure not to exceed acceptable limits.
* Adhere to Forterra Health and Safety Rules and Guidance, and rules and procedures involving the use of workshop equipment.
* Use all hand/power tools and ladders safely and correctly using the required P.P.E and take out of action immediately damaged/faulty items.
* Carry out housekeeping duties as and when required.
About You:
* Work a reasonable amount of overtime when required.
* Be flexible with out of time hours.
* The job requires adequate mechanical qualifications and a minimum of three years’ experience.
Training Requirements:
* Approved apprenticeship.
* Ability to research technical information and undertake effective fault finding/rectification.
* Minimum 2 years maintenance experience with proven technical competence.
* Self-motivated to work individually or as part of a team.
* Able to work with minimal supervision.
