At Capita, we are excited to expand our dedicated and supportive Local Public Services team by welcoming a new Council Tax Officer. You will be supporting clients of Lambeth Council predominantly over the telephone and via email but also on occasion attending Croydon County Court when needed. You will also be responsible for maintaining our databases, ensuring queries are directed to the appropriate teams when necessary, and delivering exceptional customer service.
We are looking for someone with a passion for customer service, previous experience working with the public, and excellent communication skills, both over the phone and via email. While this role is primarily home-based, there may be occasions when you need to visit Croydon County Court, so we are seeking candidates located within an hour of this location who are willing to travel (fully expensed by the business).

What you’ll be doing:
* Investigate computer records (Academy One Revenues and Benefits) and interrogate customer’s accounts to maximise collection of Council Tax for Bexley Council.
* Occasionally attend court proceedings at Croydon County Court to provide information as and when needed
* Be responsible for dealing with, and responding to, written and verbal enquiries from members of the public, using a document imaging system (Anite), EGWM and working to procedures and guidelines
* Deal with and respond to customers over the telephone when needed.
* Negotiate arrangements in writing, on the phone, for payment of debts
* Ensure accounts are progressed through the recovery cycle from reviewing housekeeping lists
* Promoting direct debit, e-billing and self-service to the customer
* Investigate records and liaise with outside agencies to locate debtors who have moved

* A good level of Maths and English
* Excellent communication skills both written an verbally
* Computer literate
* Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively and tactfully with all levels
* Professional approach.
* Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
* Good organisational skills.
