Abbott's Diabetes Care business designs, develops and manufactures leading-edge blood glucose monitoring technology for use in both home and hospital settings, including our revolutionary Freestyle Libre Flash Glucose Monitoring System. At our Centre of Excellence in Witney, we design, develop and manufacture test strips and biosensors which are used by patients and healthcare professionals for the day-to-day management of diabetes.
As a result of strong business growth, industry-leading product development in the biosensor business and a long-term commitment to high volume manufacturing in our Witney Centre of Excellence, we have a fantastic opportunity for a Product Investigation Engineer to join our expanding highly skilled team. We are open to this role being on either 4 on 4 off Day Shift, or 4 on 4 off Night Shift.
Reporting to the Complaints Investigation Team Manager, you will conduct and support the complaint investigation process by troubleshooting and identifying root causes associated with medical device product returns using various electronics equipment and software applications. Through cross functional collaborations (R&D, Operations, Quality, etc.), trend monitoring, and robust investigative practices, you will recommend changes which ultimately support improvements to product reliability and manufacturing yield by eliminating similar failure modes in the future.
This will be achieved through various tasks, including:
1. Troubleshooting complaint returns to determine root causes (where possible) of failures using schematic diagrams and equipment such as soldering irons, drill presses, microscopes, oscilloscopes, software applications, and other equipment.
2. Ensuring the accuracy, quality, and timeliness of the processing and documentation of any activities carried out.
3. Translating engineering investigation methodologies into procedures which can be executed by the Complaint Handling Group and qualifying new procedures/equipment as necessary.
4. Monitoring product trends, linking this to customer observations and investigating to root cause.
The ideal candidate will be apprentice trained in electronic/electrical engineering, or degree qualified in an electronic/electrical engineering field with proven industry-based application of knowledge.
Experience of working in Quality Assurance within a regulated environment or industry is preferred, as is proven exposure to nano-technology troubleshooting and fault-finding environments. You will be comfortable working with cross-functional teams but equally able to own and be accountable for individual tasks.
In addition to a competitive salary, Abbott offers a highly attractive benefits package which includes a defined-contribution pension scheme, private healthcare, life assurance, and a flexible benefits scheme which you can tailor to your own requirements. Here at Witney, we also like to help our employees live life to the fullest, and therefore we offer a range of optional initiatives for you to get involved in, including onsite allotments, couch to 5k campaigns, beekeeping, yoga, and more!
