About the Department:
The Race Operations department incorporates the trackside engineering functions of the Formula One Team including Race Engineering, Strategy, Tyres & Coordination functions. Specifically, this role is within the Race Engineering group who are responsible for the preparation, planning and trackside delivery of a race weekend. The team of engineers strive to extract the maximum performance return of the current car & driver package through engineering excellence.
Role Overview:
As a Performance Engineer Graduate, you’ll play a critical role in assisting the Race & Performance engineering group in the preparation, optimisation and delivery of each trackside event. This role offers a rare opportunity to be integrated with the Williams F1 trackside team. It is a chance to work and learn from the most talented Race & Performance engineers in motorsport and actively assist in the delivery of race weekend performance. The role has both professional growth potential in track facing engineering roles and the thrill of contributing to each race weekend.
Your Responsibilities:
As a Performance Engineer Graduate at Williams, you will:
• Provide factory-based support & data analysis during trackside operations
• Assist the Race & performance Engineers with preparation, planning & delivery of required event programmes.
• Collation, consolidation & presentation of event & season summary data
• Contribute to the delivery of reports before, during and after each track event.
• Assist in the planning, execution and reporting of test dyno sessions.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
• Strong relevant mechanical or automotive engineering degree
• Technically the best in class at this stage in their education/career – with high attention to detail
• Good understanding of engineering principles and vehicle dynamics.
• Familiarity with data analysis tools.
• Thorough knowledge of MS Office 365 applications, MATLAB and Power BI reporting / analytics
• Strong problem-solving ability and effective written & verbal communication skills.
• Attention to detail, well organised with the ability to prioritise own tasks and deliver to agreed deadlines.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Self-motivated, innovative and can work generally unsupervised to challenging deadlines
• A team player with an open-minded, responsible and constructive attitude
• Ability to work flexibly within the Groups to maintain a high-performance team culture
