Job overview
As a senior member of the team for the Pregnancy Advisory service you will be expected to work collaboratively with all members of the MDT delivering holistic, excellent care to women accessing our service. We are one of 6 centres in the UK providing specialist NHS abortion care up to 23+ 6 weeks of pregnancy.
At St George's we provide medical and surgical termination of pregnancy and women travel from many areas of the country for our specialist services.
We expect all staff to have a good understanding of treatment options available, and work with the sphere of practice that is well established. We would welcome any candidate to work within our team who has a special interest in this field but we are also very happy to develop the correct candidate to deliver care to women.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Work in accordance with NMC guidelines for Professional Practice & the wider regulatory frameworks of the Abortion Act 1967 & Health & Social Care Act as well as STG clinical policies and procedures.
2. Ensure that the client understands options in relation to the pregnancy &, if choosing termination, meets the ground of the Abortion Act.
3. Provide information on STI Testing, undertake tests and provide results and also discuss, inform and confirm the clients future choice of contraception.
4. Carefully check for and implement any procedure indicated on client case notes, including administering medication for Medical Abortion procedures or cervical preparation.
5. Carry out post treatment check-ups by assessing the physical condition of the client, discussing any concerns and escalating appropriately.
6. Complete relevant paperwork and in the event of any problems escalate accordingly.
7. Care for and support clients undergoing surgical treatments. This could include general anaesthetic, conscious sedation or local anaesthetic.

Person specification
Experience
* 2 Years previous gynaecology nursing experience.
* Valid Nursing or Midwifery qualification.
* Previous experience of working in abortion care or sexual health.
* Evidence of professional updating via relevant courses.
SKILLS
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Able to act as a role model and as a mentor/assessor - Mentorship qualification.
* Counselling skills.
