Job Description
This apprenticeship is part of the Climate Ready Apprenticeship Program helping Glasgow City Council reach Net Zero by 2030.
Working across the city in Horticulture, Parks and Gardens placements. Involvement in high profile projects which may include George Square Redevelopment, Conservation, Biodiversity, Walled Gardens and Food Growing.
You will:
1. Attend college for training one day per week where you will study, for instance:
2. How to establish and maintain a range of outdoor plants
3. Basic maintenance of horticultural machinery
4. How to assess site requirements
5. How to organise resources and work schedules
6. How to maintain amenity turf
7. Health and safety legislation
Typical progression:
1. 1st year: Level 2 Horticulture
2. 2nd year: Level 3 Parks, Gardens and Green Space
3. 3rd year: HNC Horticulture or specialism specific qualifications
Each candidate’s performance is evaluated regularly to assess suitability for progression.
This post is fixed term for a period up to 4 years.
