Marketing Executive – New Scientist Live 2025 (Diversified Revenues)

Contract: March/April – October 2025 - Fixed term contract
Salary: Up to £42k per annum prorata
Workplace type: Hybrid - working with 3 days per week in office (including Tuesday, Thursday and one other day).
Purpose of Role
To support the Head of Marketing in the run-up to New Scientist Live with visitor and exprom marketing campaigns, and provide onsite support during the show, at ExCeL London, from Saturday 18th - Monday 20th October 2025. The role also requires the provision of support for ad hoc projects and other requests within the head of marketing remit.
The ideal candidate will have previous event marketing experience, be a highly organised, self-motivated and efficient individual with a helpful, can-do attitude, and great attention to detail.
Main Event: New Scientist Live
New Scientist Live is an award-winning, mind-blowing festival of ideas and discoveries for everyone curious about science and why it matters. It is a hybrid event, that takes place at ExCeL London, with the stage talks live streamed over the weekend. The show will run from Saturday 18th - Monday 20th October. Over the weekend the show will be open to the general public and the final day of the show, Monday 20th October, exclusively for school students and home learners. Over the three days the show will feature more than 60 speakers and 80+ exhibitors who will come together to create an unrivalled atmosphere and energy, packed with thought-provoking talks, ground-breaking discoveries, interactive experiences, workshops and performances. Main Responsibilities
Campaign management and co-ordination - key tasks will include:
* Working with the head of marketing, supporting the tactical delivery of marketing campaigns and to promote New Scientist Live ticket sales and support exprom.
* Updating the event website with new speakers/exhibitors and general content.
* Managing the organic social media campaign, creating content and scheduling posts using Echo box, in addition to working closely with our external digital marketing agency, who are responsible for the New Scientist Live SEO and paid social media campaigns.
* Working closely with our in-house creative director and freelancer designers, briefing in new creative requirements including print ads, online assets, video content and general marketing collateral to promote ticket sales.
* Updating e-newsletters with event display ads.
* Liaising with speakers and exhibitors to support them in promoting their talks and participation in New Scientist Live.
* Managing all event listings on relevant websites.
* Managing the visitor reminder campaign to maximise event attendance.
Campaign reporting & development
* Support the team with analysis of marketing campaigns, using Google Analytics.
* Assisting with the creation and delivery of ticket sales reports to share results with the wider event team.
Sponsorship and Exhibitor communications
* Supporting the account management of sponsors and exhibitors to ensure all contracted marketing deliverables are fulfilled.
* Managing emails/communication to exhibitors to support them in promoting New Scientist Live to their contacts and customers.
Person Specification
* A marketing degree or qualification and good A Levels, ideally English, Maths, Science.
* Minimum of one year's event marketing experience.
* Experience of working as part of a marketing team and supporting the delivery of campaigns from conception to execution.
* Competent in writing engaging marketing copy for both digital and print campaigns.
* Experience of writing creative briefs for in-house and freelance designers.
* Experience in managing social media campaigns including creating social media assets and messaging, and scheduling posts.
* Experience in managing integrated marketing campaigns using multiple print and online channels including emails, paid and organic social, direct mail, influencer marketing, print and online advertising.
* Experience of managing and coordinating projects delivering work on time and to budget.
* Strong communication and relationship building skills.
* Able to work effectively to tight deadlines and stay calm under pressure.
* Attention to detail.
* Works well on own initiative but also a strong team player.
* Proficiency in MS Office including Excel.
