An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 prison nurse to join the hepatitis CNS team. This post will require someone with experience and background of working in a prison environment. An interest in hepatitis C will also be an advantage.
The post holder will work closely with the Hepatitis CNS's in delivering patient focused care. They will help run a nurse led service in treating patients with hepatitis C in the prison, help with testing in the prison and link in with the Hepatitis C Trust and other Health and Justice partners.
They will get patients information ready for the weekly hepatitis MDT and respond swiftly to instructions/outcomes, see patients in the prison setting and prepare them for treatment.
You will be offered support and supervision by the senior CNS team members and will undertake a competence based training programme.
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a sound clinical knowledge of working within the prison setting and is essential for this post.

The post is part time and the office base is in Nuffield House at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Main duties of the job
1. Provide specialist nursing advice to patients referred for specialist intervention, care and support within the hepatitis services, being a point of contact for assessment, information and advice for the patient, family and carers.
2. Be a point of contact and liaison with the prison Blood borne virus (BBV) link /lead nurse.
3. To liaise closely with the Hepatitis C Trust prison peers and to participate in the Follow Me Project to track the patient after release to ensure we get the outcome SVR 12 test.
4. Continuously assess communication, educational and information needs for patients devise plans to ensure needs are met, ensure instructions/information are understood.
5. Report and raise concerns about Safeguarding with HMP prison staff and accessing advice and support at the point of need.
6. Establish and maintain robust communications process within and external to the wider team.
7. Ensure effective handover of patients between health care professionals using a range of communication aids with focus on offender release into the community.
8. Make verbal and written recommendations about changes required in clinical and network environments this may include challenging current practice standards or imparting information which could be contentious.
9. Deal with a complex multi professional working relationships with numerous stakeholders.

* Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration.
* Evidence of post registration CPD / post registration qualification in appropriate area of speciality or professional knowledge supplemented by specialist experience and short courses to FHEQ Level 6.
