Main Purpose of Role: Undertake design and engineering work and apply subject matter knowledge to provide high end technical support. Provide independent judgment in collection, assembly and preliminary determination of engineering data. Responsibilities: Technical: Demonstrate a clear understanding of standard technical theory and engineering principles. This will include mechanical design (wall thickness calculations, road crossing calculations etc.); standard components and materials used for pipeline construction; pipeline routing considerations; and typical construction methods. Familiarity with a full range of engineering deliverables such as design, study reports, drawings, specifications and material requisitions (including alignment sheets / strip maps; construction drawings; and material specifications and data sheets). Experience of undertaking design work in accordance with major regulations and industry codes and standards affecting standard design work (ASME B31.4/B31.8, BS PD 8010, IGEM/TD/1, API 5L, API 6D, API 1102, etc.) Knowledge of pipeline systems including above ground installations; block valve stations; designing systems for pigging (launcher / receiver stations, full bore mainline components for valves, barred tees etc.); effects of thermal expansion and dynamic loading on pipeline design; common material properties, limitations, availability and fabrication methods; and valve types and applications. Perform design calculations to code and specification requirements (wall thickness, pipeline combined stresses, road crossings etc.). Work with CAD designers in production of pipeline drawings. Participate in supplier meetings and assist review of supplier documentation for compliance to specifications. Generic: Ensure designs meet statutory, company, client and project requirements for integrity, effectiveness, safety and robustness. Organise and prioritise daily workload to ensure maximum efficiency and performance. Be aware of project CTRs and activity hours and highlight any potential task overrun to senior staff. Understand roles of other disciplines on a project. Assist in co-ordination and interface with other discipline staff and client engineers as required to carry out inter-discipline design work. Participate in preparation, coordination and review of deliverables. Be familiar with our design standards and work practice on feasibility study, FEED, detailed design, and EPC projects. Use available design tools for efficient execution of project deliverables. Work in accordance with corporate, project and client procedures and QHSE system requirements. Undertake site visits to facilitate design work and resolve project problems. Knowledge / Experience (Skills): Must possess detailed experience in pipeline design for onshore/offshore, crude oil tank farms, process plants, petroleum refineries, FPSO, etc. General computer literacy with MS Excel, Word, Outlook, Windows and the Internet. Knowledge of relevant National and International Standards and Codes of Practice. Practical exposure to the EPC sector of oil and gas industry. Ability to communicate and work in harmony with other discipline engineers in project team. Able to work independently and be highly organised. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Discretion and confidentiality at all times. Flexibility to work in team environment. Qualifications: An engineering degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline. Chartered membership of an appropriate institution is desirable.
