Main duties of the job
Applications are invited for a full-time (10PAs) Consultant Orthogeriatrician to work in the department of Trauma and Orthopaedics.
The Department of Trauma & Orthopaedics has 3 dedicated ward areas (Harvey Ward, Phoenix Ward and Ocelot Ward which includes 14 protected ultra clean elective beds). They are situated in the new extension at the Medway Maritime Hospital (Level 3 Green Zone) commissioned in March 1999. A Surgical High Dependency Unit was opened in 2006 and a Surgical Assessment Unit was opened in 2005.
Presently, the Department of T&O consists of 15 Orthopaedic Consultants, 1 Orthogeriatric Consultant, 5 Specialist Trainees (KSS Deanery), SAS Doctors, Foundation doctors and SHO's.

Job responsibilities
* Develop and embed the pathways for non-ambulatory frailty fractures.
* Improve pre-operative optimisation, lead the perioperative medical management of fractured-femur, peri prosthetic fracture and non-ambulatory frailty fracture patients and to coordinate the subsequent rehabilitation process.
* Provide oversight and clinical supervision for junior doctors attached to your team (4 doctors) and contribute towards the teaching and training.
* Participate in the daily trauma meetings, daily MDT meetings, weekly handover meeting and monthly hip fracture/ non-ambulatory frailty fracture meetings to improve care in line with NICE/BPT/NAFF/GIRFT guidelines.
* Participate and attend the monthly audit and clinical governance meetings.
* Promote high professional standards of clinical care for patients, both through direct patient care and by maintenance of continuing professional development.
Person Specification
Experience
* At least 2 years post membership experience.
* At least 1 year in geriatrics and at least 1 year in ortho-geriatrics.
Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration with license to practise.
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Geriatric Medicine via either:
1. Certificate of completion of training (CCT) (or within 6 months of interview date).
2. Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).
3. European Community Rights.
* MBBS (or equivalent).
* Speciality Certificate Exam in Geriatrics (RCP) or Equivalent.
* Post graduate membership with at least 2 years post membership experience.
Skills
* Perioperative management of elderly frail patients.
* Discharge planning with the multidisciplinary team - OT, PT, dieticians.
