Women's Head Coach
North Stafford Hockey Club Newcastle-under-Lyme & Stoke-on-Trent
North Stafford Hockey Club (NSHC) is seeking a Women’s Head Coach to take responsibility for driving forward the Women’s section, in particular the Women’s 1st XI and 2nd XI in the 2025-26 season.
North Stafford Hockey club is based at both Newcastle-under-Lyme School and Trentham Academy and currently consists of three Women’s teams, coordinated by Head of Women’s Hockey, Libby Wallbank. Women’s training currently takes place on Wednesday nights, but there is flexibility for this to change if required.
The Women’s 1st XI currently plays in Midlands 3NW, whilst the club has a rich pedigree of competing in the top leagues in the region. The club has ambitions for further growth in future years and is looking for a new Women's Head Coach to support this. A player-coach would also be considered.
North Stafford Hockey Club also has a thriving junior setup and is an England Hockey accredited Talent Centre. The club also hosts the England Hockey Stoke Talent Academy at Trentham Academy.
In recent years, the club has had significant junior success, winning two Boys u18s National Finals and reaching various other semi-finals. In 2023-24 the Girls u14s reached the National Tier 2 Cup Semi-Finals and were Midlands Tier 2 Champions. This year the club has fielded Girls u10s, u12s, u14s and u16s squads and there are many young players as part of the Women’s section.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to play an integral role in supporting the development of these young players, along with the senior members across the Women’s section. For the right candidate, additional coaching opportunities could be available within the club’s junior section.
Main Duties:
* Lead the Women’s Performance (with option to run club session too for Women’s 3rd XI)
* Act as a coach or player-coach for the Women’s 1st XI on Saturdays (desirable that able to be there every week)
* Shape the direction and development of the Women’s Performance teams.
* Support the development and implementation of a section wide style of play following the NSHC Coaching Philosophy and principles of the GB Talent System Framework.
* Work with other coaches across the club.
Person Specification:
* Level 2 Qualified Coach (or working / aspiring towards this for a high-quality player-coach).
* Strong hockey knowledge and understanding of Talent System Framework.
* Ability to develop and deliver a high-quality training programme.
* Ability to support the development of young players.
* Experience of playing or coaching in the top levels of regional hockey or in national league (desirable)
* Eligible to work in the UK with full DBS check.
NSHC will discuss renumeration with applicants based on attributes and experience, with an annual contract for the successful applicant. Further paid coaching opportunities can also be made available for the right applicant within the club or via our community programmes.
