Job Summary
This post is for a Band 4 Therapy Assistant Practitioner at UHCW NHS Trust, within the outpatient therapy team based at UHCW main hospital site and the City of Coventry Health Centre. Under supervision of a Registered Therapist, the post holder will deliver high-quality services by planning and prioritising workload, contributing to the effective running of the therapy service. The role involves working independently within scope of practice, demonstrating effective time management, and providing clinical support to less experienced staff as delegated by the Clinical Specialist / Clinical Team Leader.
Main Duties
1. Assess, treat, and discharge patients within scope, including mobility, equipment, and functional assessments, treatment progression, and leading group work.
2. Develop and provide exercise programmes for patients, with guidance from a registered therapist as needed.
3. Recognize deterioration in patients' physical, mental, and behavioural health, escalating concerns promptly to a registered practitioner.
Clinical
1. Develop and maintain positive, person-centred relationships with patients, families, and carers.
2. Understand influences on health outcomes, including health inequalities.
3. Support health promotion and seek guidance when patients express a desire to change health behaviours.
4. Conduct initial patient screening to assist in case prioritization.
5. Adhere to professional and organisational codes of conduct and policies.
6. Understand team roles and boundaries, ensuring supervision and delegated tasks are completed timely.
7. Participate in planning, developing, and evaluating care plans, providing evidence-based input.
8. Monitor patient progress, recognise changes, and escalate concerns appropriately.
9. Ensure safe equipment use, adapt equipment as needed, and monitor progress, including risk assessments.
10. Maintain accurate, timely records using digital platforms.
11. Communicate effectively through various methods and handle sensitive information appropriately.
12. Report incidents and follow protocols for treatment continuation or initiation.
13. Maintain department cleanliness and safety, reporting damages and ensuring compliance with health and safety guidelines.
14. Manage personal time effectively, maintaining punctuality and reliable attendance.
Leadership & Education
1. Induct new team members and mentor support staff and students.
2. Engage in ongoing learning, seek feedback, and participate in appraisals and personal development planning.
3. Complete relevant training and CPD activities, participate in clinical governance, and contribute to quality improvement projects.
