The Opportunity
The Procurement Category Manager is part of the Global Procurement & Supply Chain team, reporting to the Head of Procurement. This role manages strategic and tactical sourcing for pharmaceutical-related categories, specifically Excipients, to meet internal stakeholder needs, drive value chain creation, and support business growth, cost optimization, and supply security.
Role Responsibilities
1. Lead global sourcing strategy, collaborating across functions, regions, and manufacturing sites.
2. Develop and lead strategic sourcing teams at the site level.
3. Establish procurement best practices and talent management to identify and execute pipeline opportunities.
4. Set and implement category strategies aligned with company objectives.
5. Drive process improvements, cost savings (target 3% YoY), and value creation, ensuring compliance and quality.
6. Oversee supplier compliance programs.
7. Identify and implement cost and process improvements, supporting business priorities.
8. Partner with manufacturing, R&D, regulatory, QC, and supply teams to meet strategic and operational needs.
9. Gather market intelligence to maintain competitiveness and transparency.
10. Manage the full supplier portfolio, including sourcing, negotiations, and contracting.
The Candidate
At Dechra, we value diversity and inclusion. We are especially interested in candidates with:
* At least 5 years of procurement experience, preferably in an international pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
* Expertise in procurement categories within pharmaceutical or chemically regulated industries.
* Knowledge of procurement systems and best practices.
* Experience with multi-site ERP systems (Oracle preferred).
* Experience leading international procurement projects.
* Understanding of contractual terms.
* Market knowledge of suppliers and environments.
* Bachelor’s Degree in Life Sciences, Supply Chain Management, or equivalent experience.
Additional Information
* Occasional global travel may be required.
* Based in Northwich / Hybrid work arrangement.
