We are looking for a qualified Nursing Associate who wants to specialise within Paediatric Emergency Care in a role which is based in our Children and Young People's Emergency Department.
Please note the current shift times are 7 days per week, 09:30 - 22:00. These shift times may adapt as the needs of the service change.
Main duties of the job
1. To assist / work alongside the nursing staff in providing and maintaining high standards of care to the children and their families attending the Children and Young Person’s Emergency Department.
2. Implement play and distraction for children receiving emergency care.
3. To ensure the emotional, social, physical and intellectual development needs of every child are met in liaison with other professional staff.
4. The post holder will work in support of registered nurses, doctors and allied health professionals. Supervision and teaching of Healthcare Assistants and Trainee Nursing Associates will be part of the role.
5. As this is a brand new role, it is anticipated that this role will continue to develop through the acquisition of further skills, knowledge and competencies to be determined within the clinical team with the focus on patient needs.

Person specification
Education
* Qualified Nursing Associate (nursing associate candidates)
* CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Child Care and Education / NNEB (nursery nurse candidates) OR BTEC National Diploma in Children's Care, Learning and Development (nursery nurse candidates) OR NVQ Level 3 in Children's Care, Learning and Development (nursery nurse candidates)
* Child protection Training
* Paediatric first aid
Experience
* Minimum of 6 months experience in a childcare setting (nursery nurses)
* Previous paediatric experience in a health care setting (nursing associate)
* Good awareness of paediatric developmental milestones.
* Experience of working with paediatric patients with mental health related conditions.
Skills and Knowledge
* Able to interact and engage with children, playing at their level and meeting their individual needs.
* Able to share information appropriately.
* Good working knowledge of confidentiality.
* Able to demonstrate and raise concerns.
* Application of Plaster of Paris.
* Wound assessment and closure.
* Recording of vital signs/ observations.
