The post holder will be responsible for:
1. To work as a skilled member of the nursing team providing a high standard of holistic patient centred care.
2. To promote patient centred care and establish good relationships with patients and carers.
3. To provide a welcoming and safe environment for patients.
4. To communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team.
5. To contribute to the mentoring, training and education of learners and junior staff.
6. The post holder will initially be based in the specialty of General Surgery & Cancer Services.
7. The post holder will be an experienced nurse who uses specialist knowledge and skills to support the Breast care Team.
8. The post holder will work under the supervision of Clinical Nurse Specialist.
Main duties of the job
1. Undertake relevant clinical assessment, reviewing clinical signs and results to support the patient's on-going treatment plan as required.
2. Perform delegated clinical interventions against specialty protocol, e.g., seroma aspirations, complex wound dressings, venepuncture.
3. Ability to oversee the running of the department when required and give support to HCSWs in clinics where treatments or investigations are being undertaken.
4. Undertake nurse led clinics following training.
5. Request routine investigations as specialty protocol allows.
6. Integrate both pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment in patient care.
7. Produce accurate and complete documentation and patient records consistent with legislation, policies and procedures.
8. Anticipate barriers to communication and establish methods of overcoming these, ensuring patients and significant others are kept fully informed and consent to treatment is maintained.
9. Act as a resource for staff advising on local, Trust and national policy, procedures and guidelines ensuring patient safety and clinical governance.
10. Understand and apply the legal safeguarding framework that supports the identification of vulnerable and abused adults/children and be aware of statutory vulnerable patients' health procedures and Trust guidance. Ensure appropriate referral if required.
11. Involvement in health promotion through education and practice.
12. Involvement in the mentoring and training of learners and junior staff.

Person Specification
* NMC registered
* Counselling
* Completion of relevant extended role scope competencies, such as Breast Care Nursing module, Oncology Module and Counselling certificate.
* University qualification in specialty.
Qualifications/experience
* 3 years qualified nursing experience.
* Holds, or working towards, a degree.
* Clinical skills experience.
