Mencap Employ Me are excited to be working with DFN Project SEARCH, Birmingham Metropolitan College to deliver a programme of support to young people with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) in Birmingham.

Project SEARCH is an international transition to work programme aimed at transforming the lives of young people with learning disabilities and/or autism
We are looking for a passionate and self-motivated person to join our Mencap Employ Me team in Birmingham. In this team you will provide individually tailored support for young interns helping them to integrate into the working environment, develop skills and knowledge that will lead to sustained employment. Each intern will experience a rotation of 2 work placements with employers based at The Mailbox in Birmingham.
We are looking for a part time (30 hours per week) Job Coach to support the delivery of this project.
You will:
- Work in partnership with Project SEARCH partners to recruit and select interns
- Develop internship opportunities
- Work with the team to match interns to internship opportunities
- Support and train interns to ensure they gain practical and competitive skills
- Work with the managers/mentors to support interns’ progress and solve any challenges
Key skills and requirements (essential):
- Experience of supporting people
- Knowledge of supported employment
- A-C/9-4 English & Maths GCSE (or equivalent)
- Have an interest in and desire to know more about learning disability and autism
- Adaptable to work in range of environments
- Effective/accurate record keeping and reporting
- Professional conduct and attendance
