Selection Criteria

Role
This position requires school holiday attendance.
This role involves ongoing physical activity and effort, usually outdoors, during scheduled work hours.
Under the direction of the Principal or Business Manager, the Facilities Maintenance Officer will maintain the general appearance of the school facilities. The successful applicant will have the capacity to undertake basic maintenance and repairs tasks, including, but not limited to, repairs to toilets, basic carpentry tasks, fixtures and fittings, and moving of furniture. The applicant must demonstrate a good understanding of OHS requirements.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
1. Observe Child Safe work practices in accordance with school policy, training, and instructions.
2. Undertake general maintenance and minor works around the school buildings and grounds to a high standard including rubbish and recycling.
3. Provide additional cleaning when required including graffiti removal to ensure the aesthetic of the school buildings and grounds are maintained to a high standard.
4. Safely operate machinery and equipment as required for this position.
5. Ensure safety is maintained within the work area when completing tasks.
6. Assess and prioritise job requests in the Maintenance Register.
7. Liaise with the Principal and Business Manager on works to be completed.
8. Order and purchase goods and equipment as required.
9. Ensure DET Occupational Health and Safety requirements are met whilst working.
10. Monitor and report on any security issues.
11. Move furniture and equipment as required, including setting up for school events.
12. Minor cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
13. Ensure storage areas are in a clean, safe and orderly condition.
14. Carry out regular visual inspections of roofs, roof guttering, drains, toilets, sinks and troughs to proactively identify and rectify problems.
15. Carry out minor maintenance and repairs i.e. new locks, minor plumbing and carpentry, painting, line marking etc.
