The Opportunity
The purpose of this role is to undertake, individually or as part of a team, duties connected with the maintenance and repair of a wide range of vehicles/equipment/plant ranging from grounds maintenance equipment through to cars/light commercial vehicles and large goods vehicles.
Accountabilities
To assist in the day to day running of the Vehicle/Plant Workshop including daily operational and manning requirements and the liaison with refuse crews, contractors and suppliers.
To undertake routine and reactive vehicle, plant and equipment maintenance including fault finding, major overhauls and replacements, servicing, preparing and presenting vehicles for LGV and MOT tests, replacement of wheels and tyres and the reporting of defects and damage including the completion of all necessary documentation.
To carry out cleaning of vehicles/plant and equipment, inside and out.
To undertake driving duties, including road testing, recovery, collection and delivery of vehicles and materials, and the operation of plant (e.g. fork lift trucks, compressors, pumps and mechanical loaders).
To attend vehicle breakdowns and conduct roadside repairs as necessary.
To provide general support and assistance to the Workshop Manager
To assist in the scheduling of repairs and ordering / receiving of parts, etc; to ensure accurate stock levels are maintained along with all associated record keeping and documentation, both manual and computerised.
To ensure the security of the workshop and the vehicles, plant and equipment kept within the workshop. To open and close the premises as and when required.
To maintain the workshop and associated facilities in a clean and tidy condition.
To complete documentation and to maintain accurate and comprehensive records in accordance with departmental policies and procedures
To adhere to existing working practices, methods and departmental procedures; to undertake relevant training and development activities and to respond positively to new and alternative systems of work.
The Experience You Will Bring
To be successful in this post you must have previous mechanical and diagnostic skills gained whilst servicing heavy goods vehicles, light commercial and municipal vehicles. You must be able to work well in a team environment, possess a flexible approach and take reasonable care for your health and safety in everything you do.
This role requires you to have a Class 2/HGV Licence and experience in driving HGV Vehicles.
