Base salary range: $100,524 - $111,534 p.a. plus 17% superannuation. About the area The Minderoo OceanOmics Centre at UWA is a collaborative initiative between UWA and Minderoo Foundation. This collaboration supports the ambitious goal of Minderoo OceanOmics Program to transform ocean conservation by advancing marine genomics and environmental DNA (eDNA) technologies. Located in the Bayliss Building on the UWA Crawley Campus, the OceanOmics Centre integrates a joint Reference Genome, eDNA and Computational Biology laboratories. These facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art high-throughput sequencing technologies, liquid handling robotics and computational infrastructure. The OceanOmics Centre is staffed by a team of researchers and technical personnel who are also part of the UWA Oceans Institute, a multidisciplinary research institution based in the nearby Indian Ocean Marine Research Centre. About the opportunity Oversee the development and optimisation of cutting-edge bioinformatics tools and workflows, with a focus on environmental DNA (eDNA) and genomic sequencing data. Collaborate across the OceanOmics Centre to deliver high-quality, reproducible analyses, optimise HPC workflows, and establish best practices for data management and sharing. Lead a skilled bioinformatics technical team, providing guidance and support to staff, academics, and students to ensure safe and effective project delivery. About you Relevant tertiary qualification in computational biology, computer science, software engineering, or genetics/genomics, or demonstrated equivalent competency. Sound analytical skills with substantial experience in developing and optimising bioinformatics tools, pipelines, and software for processing high-throughput genomic data, including data submission to online repositories (e.g., NCBI SRA and Genbank). Substantial knowledge of data quality control, curation, and secure and ethical data management and sharing practices. Substantial experience with UNIX command-line systems and programming languages (e.g., Python, R, Bash) and familiarity with operating bioinformatics tools and platforms in HPC environments. Substantial experience with data and workflow management systems and version control for reproducible and scalable data analyses (e.g., Git, Snakemake, Nextflow), and adherence to FAIR data principles. Demonstrated experience in training and supervising junior staff and students.
