Learning Resource Centre and Accelerated Reader Supervisor
The Park Academies Trust is looking to appoint a Learning Resource Centre and Accelerated Reader Supervisor to make the resource centre a friendly and welcoming place which encourages pupils to read and engage with books at The Deanery CE Academy in Swindon (SN1 7DA), Wichelstowe. Salary: £27,209 (£24,488 pro rata salary)

Job Description
Job Title: Learning Resource Centre and Accelerated Reader Supervisor
Role reports to (Job Title): Vice Principal/Operations Manager
Job Purpose: This key purpose of the role is to make the resource center a friendly and a welcoming place that actively encourages pupils to read and engage with books and to ensure access to current curriculum-based materials are available to enhance all aspects of literacy. To lead and co-ordinate the delivery of the Accelerated Reader programme in the school, including delivering dedicated lessons to various year groups. To develop and maintain an up-to-date learning base using Accelerated Reader as a resource tool for all staff to access and to work with colleagues cross Trust to ensure an aligned and consistent approach to the use of accelerated reader.
Key Accountabilities:
* Liaise with departments in order to ensure appropriate resources are available, linked to schemes of work.
* Promote reading for pleasure for all ages.
* Co-ordinate planned book events (e.g. World Book Day, outside speakers, Literature festival).
* Work with our feeder Primary Schools (including visits and resource provision) and the wider community.
* Develop out of hours provision in consultation with other extra-curricular providers.
* Manage the annual department budget.
* Prepare and submit bids for additional funding, as appropriate.
* Management of resources.
* Order, catalogue and manage stock using appropriate software.
* Manage book protection and replacement.
* Manage all loans in and out of the library, including books and other resources.
* Issue overdue lists and letters.
* Ensure that all resources and equipment are ready to use/ operational.
* Maintain the relevant section of the school website and provide up to date information/articles to support social media and central website updates.
* Attend appropriate meetings, as required, to raise awareness of current library usage and to identify future requirements/ needs
* Supervision for effective Library management.
Co-ordination of Accelerated Reader
* Deliver Accelerated Reader sessions in Years 7 and 8.
* Order, catalogue and manage Accelerated Reader books and align with core provision.
* Use pupil reading level data to inform the review and ordering of stock.
* Maintain an overview of Accelerated Reader data for all KS3 classes, working alongside teachers and literacy intervention co-ordinators to identify those pupils requiring intervention/additional support.
* Keep up to date records on the progress of each KS3 class in STAR Reader tests and Accelerated Reader quiz results.
* Update Accelerated Reader bookmarks/library cards for all KS3 pupils termly in accordance with changes to their reading levels.
* Support class teachers during Accelerated Reader lessons by helping pupils to select books at an appropriate level and by listening to pupils read.
* Communicate effectively with the designated staff within the school (English Department/Curriculum Leaders/Literacy Intervention Co-ordinators or others) as set out within the local structure, regarding the progress of individuals and groups in Accelerated Reader.
* Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding Accelerated Reader Home Connect features and pupil progress.
* Use Accelerated Reader data to identify pupils who have performed well each term and print out certificates of achievement to be awarded in school and college assemblies.
* Plan and co-ordinate Accelerated Reader rewards afternoons/activities to celebrate success in reading.
Environment
* Oversee the planning and development of the library environment in order to meet evolving student and staff needs.
* Manage ICT facilities within the centre.
* Organise book display areas.
* Promote and display students’ work.
Planning:
Regularly re-assess library stock for suitability to current school needs, including:
* Planning and agreeing developments and associated budgets.
* Keeping up to date of recent additions to publishers’ catalogues.
* Evaluating book stock with regard to readability, interest levels, attractiveness, diversity, key stage requirements, special needs, disadvantaged students and the more able
Supplementary or Local Accountabilities:
* Comply with and assist with the procedures relating to child protection, Health and Safety, confidentiality and data protection.
* Contribute to the aims of the Trust
* First Aider (training will be given)
* Minibus driving to support lessons or other school activity on an ad-hoc basis
* Provide an ad hoc support to the reprographics/admin functions as part of the support staff team
* Participate in training and other learning activities as required
Knowledge and Experience:
* A good standard of literacy and numeracy
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook
* Working knowledge of Accelerated Reader
* Great communicator with both adults and children
* Resource Centre experience in an educational setting

* Designated staff within the school (English Department/Curriculum Leaders/Literacy Intervention Co-ordinators or others) in line with the need to deliver effective accelerated reader provision
