Description Job Title Industrial Placement Maritime Services Systems Engineer Location Portsmouth Naval Base (Hampshire) Start Date 23rd June 2025 BAE Systems do offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements, however it is expected on our Industrial Placement Programme you will be required to attend your site 4-5 days per week. Please note, this may be subject to change in line with the needs of the business. What you will be doing As an Industrial Placement Systems Engineer you will learn and develop skills associated with the principles of Systems Engineering that can be applied across the entire engineering development lifecycle from requirement definition to system integration and acceptance into system support. Under supervision of our Senior Engineers you will apply growing Systems Engineering knowledge and skills to requirements elicitation, design, development, performance assessment, integration, acceptance and support, to resolve engineering issues for defined scenarios relating to the development and acceptance of products. Duties and Responsibilities • Work across a range of products and services, resolving common engineering problems while working under close technical supervision as part of a system design team. • With direction, discern and decompose requirements to system and sub-system level and manage these in a toolset such as IBM DOORS Next. • With direction, undertake system design, often using Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) techniques, to subsystem level using toolsets such as Cameo Magicdraw or Enterprise Architect. • With direction, undertake system modelling and simulation activities using toolsets such as MATLAB/Simulink and Python. • With direction, undertake the specification and design of external and internal system interfaces. • Assist with definition and execution of system integration and testing. • Support senior engineers in the definition of acceptance strategies used to verify requirement compliance at different levels of system design & support production of acceptance evidence. • Assist with technical reviews of engineering technical documentation and design. Skills As a minimum requirement you’ll need to be on track to obtain a 2.2 in your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physics, Maths, Systems Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a similarly aligned engineering degree. To be considered for this role you must be returning to university to complete your degree.
