The Opportunity:
Avantor is looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Sample Shipping Specialist to join our team in Cambridge, UK. In this role, you’ll take ownership of managing the end-to-end shipping process for both domestic and international shipments. This role is key in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements for dangerous goods, including IATA, ADR, and IMDG regulations.
This is not an office-based position; this is a hands-on role based in our logistics area.
This role will be a full-time permanent position based in a brand-new facility at the customer site - The Discovery Centre, Bio-Medical Campus in Cambridge. The Team
Alongside 8 Sample Dispatch Technicians, you’ll be part of a Sample Dispatch Team, focusing on packaging and shipping human, chemical, and biological samples, including dangerous goods. As a Sample Shipping Specialist, you’ll provide expertise in export, paperwork, dangerous goods shipping, or any complex queries. You’ll belong to our business department Lab and Production Services, which supports big pharmaceutical companies and laboratories all over the world, in Research and Development within the Life Sciences industry.
What we’re looking for:
Education: A relevant degree or equivalent qualification in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field is preferred.
Experience:
1. Shipping and dispatching materials, with expertise in hazardous goods and international logistics.
2. Proven track record of managing shipping operations and ensuring compliance with both UK and international regulations.
3. IATA Dangerous Goods Certification, ADR Certification, IMDG Certification, CILT Qualification, Customer Compliance, or Export Certification are preferable.
4. Export documentation and regulatory compliance, including Incoterms, commodity codes, and valuations.
5. Strong knowledge of shipping regulations and best practices for risk management.
6. Proficiency in data analysis and shipping software systems to enhance operational efficiency.
How you’ll thrive and create an impact:
1. Manage the end-to-end shipping process for domestic and international shipments, ensuring compliance with IATA, ADR, and IMDG regulations, particularly for hazardous materials.
2. Prepare and submit necessary documentation, ensuring all shipments meet regulatory requirements and safety standards.
3. Utilize ticket management systems (e.g., ServiceNow) to track and resolve shipping requests and issues.
4. Author and maintain key documentation such as SOPs, work instructions, and guidelines to ensure process consistency and compliance.
5. Drive operational optimization by analyzing data, identifying process improvements, and ensuring timely achievement of SLAs and KPIs.
