Detailed JD and Main Responsibilities:
1. Communicate and develop relationships with a range of organisations and technical and clinical staff on adverse incidents and investigations.
2. Explain the possible configurations of users' computer/microprocessor based equipment and configure it to operate appropriately and safely for their areas/tasks.
3. Develop relationships with medical equipment manufacturers and suppliers to obtain best value and quality with the supply of products and services.
4. Liaise with external contractors to request repairs and repair quotations.
5. Communicate efficiently with, and offer advice on medical equipment to, staff at all levels within the Trust.
6. Prioritise and negotiate with other Health Care Professionals in obtaining access to medical equipment for maintenance.
7. Brief clinical staff across the Trust in the function, operation and day-to-day maintenance of medical equipment.
8. Support colleagues by providing them with technical information and training on devices where appropriate.
9. Undertake CPD to update own technical and clinical knowledge relating to medical equipment and its use.
10. Be aware of, and contribute to, Health, Safety and Security of self and others.
11. Take appropriate precautions to ensure safety when working with heavy loads.
12. Follow departmental guidelines to ensure safety when working on open live electrical equipment.
13. Organise the provision of loan equipment from service providers when repairs cannot be achieved within a desired time scale.
14. Contribute to and participate in regular meetings with Medical Engineering Management to improve departmental performance.
15. When appropriate undertake project work.
16. Be involved in the creation and updating of complex written procedures for the performance and functional verification of medical devices.
17. Work unsupervised to Professional Standards in compliance with Department of Health guidelines.
18. Use technical expertise and clinical experience to identify potentially hazardous symptoms and faults.
19. Analyse the impact of equipment maintenance on service provision.
20. Carry out the regular maintenance, calibration, function checking and electrical safety testing of a range of complex medical equipment.
21. Prioritise planned preventative maintenance and medical equipment breakdown requests.
22. Acceptance test/commission new equipment ensuring that it is as ordered and electrically safe.
23. Function and electrically safety test equipment upon its return from external repair.
24. Assess the seriousness and implications of reported problems and respond appropriately.
25. Where necessary, use skills, knowledge and understanding to assist the user with potentially faulty equipment.
26. Apply specialised fault finding techniques to diagnose complex problems.
27. Take responsibility for all tools and specialised test equipment within the post holder's care.
28. Act as Duty Engineer when requested and attend to urgent repairs immediately.
29. Be familiar with software in computer based medical equipment systems.
30. Appraise loan equipment provided for evaluation and advise user during trials.
31. Be responsible in the care, use and maintenance of vehicles as required.
32. Raise orders for spare parts and the dispatch of repairs.
33. Ensure that stocks of any components and spare parts used do not fall below agreed levels.

Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
1. Comprehensive experience of record keeping on computer based systems.
2. A contributor to teamwork and experience of working in teams.
3. Sound knowledge of basic scientific, technical and computing principles.
4. Knowledge of infection dangers from working on medical equipment.
5. Knowledge and understanding of MMD 2014, CE marking, and MHRA incident reporting systems.
6. Sound knowledge of basic clinical, physiological, computing and Medical Engineering principles.
7. Experience in the Health and Safety aspects of maintaining Medical Equipment.
8. Familiarity with a range of medical equipment design, use, maintenance and repair procedures.
Desirable criteria
1. Experience of mechanical/electrical design and manufacture.
2. Experience of working within a Quality System.
3. An understanding of basic anatomy and physiological signals.
4. Record keeping experience.
5. Lone working experience.
6. Work experience in community/primary settings.
7. Experience of working in an NHS organisation.
Qualifications & Education
Essential criteria
1. Professional electronics knowledge to degree equivalent level acquired through B Eng in electronics or HNC/D.
2. Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable criteria
1. Registered with the RCT/IPEM.
